CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Montgomery Street residents were startled when cries of “help, help!” were shouted late Friday night. The incident took place between Albany and Troy Avenues at around 11:30pm when a Bochur was walking home from a Sholom Zochor, and was surrounded by a group of around 5 Black males of various ages.

One resident told CrownHeights.info that he heard the calls for help and he immediately ran out, sparing the Bochur a beating, and spotted a number of the group fleeing. A number of the residents gave chase and caught two of the group.

Cries of Help Spare Bochur from Friday Night Gang Beating

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Montgomery Street residents were startled when cries of “help, help!” were shouted late Friday night. The incident took place between Albany and Troy Avenues at around 11:30pm when a Bochur was walking home from a Sholom Zochor, and was surrounded by a group of around 5 Black males of various ages.

One resident told CrownHeights.info that he heard the calls for help and he immediately ran out, sparing the Bochur a beating, and spotted a number of the group fleeing. A number of the residents gave chase and caught two of the group.

One of the would-be assailants, a Black man in his 30’s who seemed to have mental issues, said he just wanted to talk to the Bochur, a story which was confirmed. It was unclear if police were at the scene, but one resident was sure to point out that there wasn’t a single cop in the vicinity, “a show of four cops one Kingston Avenue corner doesn’t make us feel safe, it’s just a way to shut us up and make us think they [police] are doing something.”

This latest incident follows a disturbing trend of gang beatings with strong racial undertones. In the last two weeks there have been three such incident, the first one being a gang assault on a Friday night where a yungerman was attacked by five perps, followed by a another Jew who was attacked on a Thursday evening by a group of five as well, and another playground beating by a group of 10 Black children.

One resident summed it up with saying “and labor day is just around the corner.”

  • A concerned observer.

Sometime between 11:00PM and 1:00AM Friday agroup of Black Teens were seen at the corner of kingston and montgomery acting roudy, some of them went over to the shul/mikve meir and tried opening up the door, when they saw it was locked they left. One of the girls were wearing a white shirt and possibly white shorts. the rest were wearing dark colored clothing. They might be the same group mentioned in the above article. Please pass on the message to the proper authorities.
I think the same group was back at around 2:00AM, and to note. not one officer was anywhere in sight during this whole time.

what we need to do is form a band of brothers, each resident should have a turn once in 3 months month to walk on shabbos the streets in a group of five. we must partol our own streets. during the week we should have a patrol two guys to a car and patrol every block of the shchuna. stop crying there isnt any police. are you guys a bunch of sheep. lets take matters in our own hands. im sure if each yungerman volounteers once in three months we have it covered. lets make our community the safest shuchuna there is by ourselves.

lets gangs know that this is not the place, let them try this crap in bedsty.

It seems that the foot patrols are scared to be by themselves…
they are more likely to make small talk with the attractive girls in the neighborhood than look for possible trouble…
Perhaps.. if they were caught on tape lounging around and the tape distributed to the media… their embarrassment would
prompt the brass to do the right thing…
until then we are stuck with our inept and incompetent ‘leadership’ who should be ashamed of their inaction !!!

  • chaptzem!

Cher is right. Now we need volunteers. Who will coordinate it? The Community Council??? HAH!!!

  • itamar rosenblatt

Does anyone know how I could contact the “leaders” of crown heights? Someone needs to bring to their attention that this is the third attack in a week. I know they’re real busy with raising money and stuff, but maybe they could help out?

    Anyone know the phone numbers?

    REPLY TO “OUT OF TOWNER”
Now that you’ve demonstrated your superior intellect, maybe you could make some concrete suggestions as to what we should do.

PS I am very concerned that I might be a “woose”, please tell me how to do “woose-shuva.”

  • Tamar

It will be countinie until we all sit quet like it doesn”t happen to us personally yet. Pllease lets go on the streets and protest (if it wi8ll help????). But we must do something> WE ARE TALKING ABOUT OUR KIDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MOshiach now!!!!

  • In the absence of light...

Not to blame the victims or anything, but that street is often very dark and the houses do not have their front lights on. It doesn’t cost much to keep the lights by your door on at night. It can really make a difference.

  • proudly south african

This took place right outside my house!! Thinking of moving back to south africa, I’ll probably be safer there.

    Dear Itamar Rosenblatt,
Please do not attack me. I am frightened for all of you and for my children that go to school in Crown Heights. You do not need my suggestions as to what to do-you have more then enough solid options from people in your own community (read through the other comments). I know it is annoying to have an outsider criticize but it is not my intention to do so, I am just worried. The situation continues to deteriorate. The time for action is now.
Respectfully and gratefully (since I have availed myself of your hospitality more than once)

  • CH Shiksa

I hope you are open to non-Jews assisting in the foot patrols. I’m a resident of CH. Most of my friends are Jewish and I want to help.

Foot patrol groups are needed but people should be armed with pepperspray and there should be a videographer for evidence. The group should be educated in protecting a crime scene. At least one person should know first aid/CPR.

For a group to just patrol requires more than walking around and you certainly do not want to make matters worse by reacting to violence with violence.

I will be at the Sept. 22 meeting.

  • Kahane Chai

In the article about the assault on the 11 year old girl,
I wrote about violence as a loast resort. But this
is getting out of hand! I don’t think the bad guys will
get the message unless they experience a painful response.

Okay, get the decoys out. Have some bachurim (but only those who really know what they are doing) out there, posing as whimps. Then, if (most likely, when) an attack ensues, we STUN* them with a surprise (no, I don’t mean killing anyone, but something unpleasant enough to be a deterrant).

    * e.g. stun gun

  • joe

um all of the nice people commenting here dont understand that with out a million doller legal defense fund at the ready there is not much that we can do to them because everyone knows that if a Jew acts in self defense chances are he will get arrested or in other legal trouble

  • hummuslover

  • meir

its time to push the legislators to pass laws enabling our 2nd amendment rights to carry personal protecton handguns to all who are able to get a permit.then the bad guys will think more than once before they try anything again
