The bus monitor remained with the children on the bus and made sure no one was injured B”H. One of the stone came crashing through a window just where a child lay sleeping and landed in the isle between the seats, and the second stone busted another window, also just narrowly missing two children who were sitting in that seat.

The driver, bus monitor and two mothers witnessed the incident and described the group as Black youths around the ages of just 10 to 12 years old. Another disturbing note was that the witnesses said it appeared that the kids already had the stones in their possession.

The commanding officer of the 71st Precinct responded to the scene along with a sergeant and the community patrol unit and had detectives assigned to the case.

In case of an emergency never hesitate to call 911 and Shomrim at (718) 774-3333 24/7

Fifteen years ago someone threw rocks at the school bus I was riding in (Bais Rivka school bus) and a girl had to get stitches after a rock hit her on the head. we had police escort for three days after that.

  • crown heights mother

This is awful. I hope some security will be around to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

  • eliezer

where the h— is th sleeping DA. will he act now? or is it time to replace him???

  • abba

Always something happening at Utica. This is the same block that was the scene of the Crown Heights Riots.

  • c.h. parent

whats c.h. coming to?? im not using the bus anymore i guess ill have to wake up 10 mintues earlier and take them myself!!

  • neighbor across the street

i live directly across the street from where it happened. just before, i was walking to pick up my daughter from school and saw the group. they were definitely 10-12 years old, about 4-5 girls and the rest boys. they were looking for trouble too…i saw them pass by 2 yidden and look around at them and acted like they wanted to start something, but kept walking instead. i don’t remember seeing them on the block either before. so the bus incident happened right after i rounded the corner i guess. i spoke to detectives who came to my house. it’s horrible, and B”H no one was hurt.

  • Now what!?

  • out of towner

thank you rabbi estulin your a commited driver
    thank for chasing the perps

  • Pray!

To all those of you charging at the DA and all, stop a second, for the DA to even get involved there has to be an arrest, which in this case unfortunately there isn’t!

I wish Police or Shomrim could have at least caught ONE of the group and the police would do the rest… making sure to catch all the rest… (in a perfect world…)

Until then we need to daven for protection!

  • TLWTD

Oooh, is Al Sharpton going to call for riots for this, too – on our behalf? Or we had it coming for our “oppression of the Black youth,” or some such nonsense.
Those, poor, tortured kids being forced to throw rocks at schoolbuses!

  • Sholom

Had someone caught one of the hooligan “children” and smacked him in the face – in the process of apprehending him – HE would probably get detained, arrested, questioned and LOTS OF TRUBLE [from the police!] for daring to “touch” a African American… this is the world we live in… Moshiach Now!

  • Shomrim Fan

Thanks Hashem for Shomrim we got someone to rely on, when ever I see those Shmira guys, I just feel that were gonna get attacked again. Shomrim, you guys are mature and devoted to your job.

  • trouble

    arrest ????
    there wont be any
none of the kids on the buss has a daddy thats a cop.

  • Arrests Neccesary?

    to pray!:
apparently there have not been any arrests in the other case either, he still managed to get involved.

  • email the DA

    Ludicrous!

I urge everyone to email the DA at AsktheDA@brooklynda.org His name is Charles J. Hynes. Give him as much detail as possible and demand that he pursue this as he is doing “other cases”

  • me myself and i

TLWTD: AL – NOT SO – SHARP – TEN… is busy trying to find 1.5 million to pay his taxes if it isnt too late…

and what about HYNES, he is pouring his ketchup over some fries as he skeches some more drawings to hang around crown heights

  • Now what!?

to mr pray: where there any arrests in the “other incident”???

  • Eliyahu

Rev. Sharpton! Open up your eyes!
Gather up your wonderful youth and teach them how to NOT TO BEHAVE LIKE ANIMALS! Otherwise, you are guilty also of ignoring the Sheva Mitzvos of Noah!!
Go to the parents and teach them the facts of life in the strongest terms.
OH I forgot, the parents are WILD ANIMALS themselves… whoops

  • Utica Resident

Shame…african americans being brought up, almost like the arabs, trained when they’re in diapers to hate the Jews.

Can you believe 10-12 YRS OLD..??

And they were doing it purposely, wonder what theyre parents talk abotu at home regarding Jews.

    Crime must stop ASAP!!

We should definately protest for a grand jury. And if there arent arrests, there are witnesses which shoudl be a enough.

Are the kids that threw rocks from this neighborhood?

  • concerned mom living in crown heights

why are we quiet? why did we not call the newspapere and media? if we keep quiet it will keep on happening (which it is) over and over again because they see they can get away with it. we should have a mass rally calling for safe streets so our children can walk safely where ever and whenever they choose. “kon sivah hashem es habrocha”
we need to stand up for what is ours and for what is right. we cannot let it happen again. we must unite against our enemy and show them we are strong and we will not be quiet anymore.

  • moishe der goilam

    to “pray”

i am not sure what you say is correct. in the other incident there wer no arrests and yet the da is convening a grand jury to find out and then arrest people

the very simple fact is the jews of crown heights get no respect

and the reason we get no respect. is because we are not united. we need achdus then they wone be able to step on us

    pray for achdus

  • Pentax

These troublemaker kids were obviously on the way to school or cutting it possibly.
Tell the 71th to go to the school and scare the **** out of the 10-12 year old grades until they talk, because trust me kids brag about these things.

Anyway unless you email an editor from
the daily news the chances are they
    won’t know…I know this for a fact.

  • awacs

“To all those of you charging at the DA and all, stop a second, for the DA to even get involved there has to be an arrest, which in this case unfortunately there isn’t!”

Oh, and who was arrested in the Andrew Charles affair?

Everyone, carry cameras! Either in cell phones, or whatever if you can afford it. If you have a camera-cell phone use it!
I have a broken cell phone w/o a camera bec. it’s a great thing to have, and I don’t need a cell phone.
Why a broken (Or imitation) cell phone? When a criminal (Any age) tries something just take out the real or fake phone and yell that you’re taking their picture and calling the police.

  • Benny

    1) We should have plastic/unbreakable windows on our school buses. 2) If possible, we should have our security patrols follow the buses in, or stakeout, troublesome areas. 3) Video cameras installed on the busses could capture images of the perps involved. 4)In the future, if one sees a group of people are looking for trouble, be proactive and call the security patrol before the crime is commited. This will help prevent the crime or make it possible to apprehend the criminals. 5) Praying also helps.

  • Shocked!

WHY would Reb Astulin LEAVE that bus to take after those kids? What would have been accomplished had he caught them? He NEVER should have left that bus and the children alone!

  • boruch ben Tzvi(A H)haKohaine hoffinger

    B”H
Everyone try to have cell phones with cameras.
I don’t need a cell phone but I have a broken one. Once I was being harassed by 2 teenagers. I took out the cell phone, made believe I was taking their picture and calling the police–they ran away FAST!

  • Please Do Something!

Please so something, lest our silence be mistaken for indefference. Here is what I did (for whatever it’s worth).
    1. Emailed a letter to the mayor saying I live in Crown Heights and feel unsafe and that crime cases are treated unfarely – what can we do about it?
    2. Called the 71st precinct to find out what was being done (718-735-0511) but got no answer.
    3. Called the CHCC police liason Batya Brandel (718-778-8808 ex *22) to find out what was being done (she saidthey had some kind of viseo of the incedents and were trying to work with that to identify the kids responsible).

  • FED UP with the black excuses!!!

black leaders ought to finally wake up and realize that their CHILDREN are doing violent acts!! these kids are not teenagers even!!! what are they teaching them that they would do such things?? Maybe instead of demonstrating for sean bell – do s/t to teach your children that carrying and using! rocks and guns are NOT the right thing!!

  • eliezer

when I was 6or 7 some drug adict tried to get on the bus to “get our lunch money ”. I still remembr the driver stopping the guy. While being severly injured.

The rebbe said, what happens in eretz yisrael, affects the rest of the world.

Perhaps those who remain/d silent over the rock attacks in yehuda and shomron, rocket attacks in sderot / ashkelon etc.. should examine their selfs.

Derech agav, I am waiting the uproar from the responsible black community, there is NO justification for this!!

Thank you Rabbi Estulin for being a wonderful bus driver! your actions now (chasing the perps) and in the past (always giving the kids a great ride – greeting the boys with such a warm and friendly good morning, with music, dressing up, lollies…) make me comfortable sending my son on your bus every day! My son really looks up to you. you are his “HERO”.

  • to Pray!

Excuse me but in the case with black guy who was attacked last week no arrests have been made, nevertheless the DA did convene a grand jury. So here you go with your self hating disease.

  • Renegade

    @Pray!:

there was no arrest made by the charles incident. That didn’t stop him from getting involved there.

  • FlabushDad

imagine if a few jewish kids threw some rocks at cracked windows of a school bus with black kids and all? we’d have rev al for sure and of course the daily news, hynes, 71st brass the whole megilla. shame on the status quo! :(

  • am yisroel chai ...

should be plenty of home/business surveillance cameras in the area – would be quite hard to miss a mob of kids running at top speed even a few blocks away.. what happened today was extremely dangerous – slightly reminiscent of the stuff that happens in israel unfortunately.this can not be tolerated we are all civilized people arent we ? there are more pressing issues in the world with which to channel our energies

  • Jewish PS teacher

I teach kids of this age group. I hear antisemitic remarks in the classroom almost on a daily basis (not directed at me, but as part of their conversation). I know that kids don’t just come up with these things on their own – they are permeated with the notion that anything asociated with Jewish is a negative thing.

  • Abby Gold

I remember reading a book a year ago or so , stating that when The Rebbe was 15 years old or so there were always fights with the anti-semites in Russia. He organized a group of young boys/men called The Jewish Defense Organization that fought off the goyim on many occassions. So why can’t we do the same?
    The time is now!!!!!

  • Hila

shocked–the bus driver did NOT NOT NOT leave those kids alone. read the article. there was a bus monitor.

  • Ms. B. Tillman - Red Hook

WHY DOES ONE FEEL THE NEED TO ACT
    OUT VIOLENCE WITH VIOLENCE. AREN’T
JEWS SUPPOSED TO BE PEOPLE OF PEACE?
WELL, GO SET AN EXAMPLE. GO SHOW A
BLACK PERSON THE SAME LOVE AS ONE
OF YOUR OWN – I GUARANTEE THAT YOU
    WILL SEE A BRIGHTER OUTCOME.

  • Zev

Ms Tillman – with all due respect- you are a dreamer. You don’t hug the guy that’s coming to kill you. got it.

  • Thank you, Ms. B. Tillman - Rec Hook

Just what we need, advice from the suburbs!

  • furious

Ms. Tillman, you don’t live here. If you want to “love” a Black, go right ahead, but don’t you DARE tell us what to do.

  • a very grateful parent

Shocked would be truly shocked to really learn what a devoted bud driver R’ Estulin is. If my son is having a difficult morning, he always goes out of the way to cheer him up with his warm smile or by getting off the bus and lifting him up in his arms and offering him a lolly so that he should have a cheerful start to his day. R. Estulin’s getting off the bus was definitely not due to negligence to his job, but rather as a natural outcome of his dedication to being there to protect our children. And the bus monitor is none other than his warm and caring morah whoresponsibly makes sure that all the children are properly seated.

  • boruch ben Tzvi(A H)haKohaine hoffinger

    B“H
Terrible bus incident.I started imagining they were my own children (To increase my Ahavat Yisroel which is weak) and I grew very angry, VERY!
1.Whatever happens in Crown Heights also affects the world (The Rebbe, MH”M said).
    2. We need real Ahavat Yisroel. Our behavior seems awful. How can Hashem, Yisborach shed his grace and kindness on us when we behave like bad children?
    3. I just called Batya Brendel (CHJCC) and suggested putting up flyers all over Crown Heights, perhaps advertise in the media that all responsible Jewish citizens in Crown Heights will be carrying cameras/cell phones with cameras. Even broken and fake ones (Do they make imitation, inexpensive cell phones?) This is less expensive than surveillance cameras. They only have to be used for emergencies.
This WORKS! I and my wife were in Rochester Park in the winter when two teenagers started throwing rocks. I grabbed my wife’s cell phone, held it up and yelled: “I’m taking your pictures and calling the police.” The two idiots ran away like crazy!

  • To ms. tildon

    Ms Tilman

who is acting out in violence? We are ppl of peace. Does that mean we have no right to defend ourselves? Does that mean we should allow ourselves to get mugged and beaten and have stones thrown at us? YOu probable are one of them. Noone talks the way you do, not even the biggest liberal. Tell the blacks to show us some love, how about that!! We dont need their love, just live and let live.

  • Ms. Beatrice Tillman - Red Hook

SOME OF YOU, UNFORTUNATELY DON’T KNOW RESPECT, THAT IS SO SAD. I’m an older woman, an older black woman, who has been active and kind – even when you young people come around with your collection charity boxes. Why is it that other Jewish communities live in peace with their neighbors, Why is it always Crown Heights? Does it have to do with your specific sect of Hasidism? Hasids in other areas are such pleasant people, I’m sure your Rabbi’s will guide you, Bless your souls!!! BTW, around 50 years ago, Red Hook was one of the BIGGEST jewish neighborhoods in Brooklyn. There are MANY – MANY Black people that want to live in HARMONY with our Jewish neighbors, don’t you want the same, I ask you?
I like you guys, if I didn’t I wouldn’t care to read your news, or give money in your Charity Boxes. You can be nice too, just try a little, it will come.

  • Ilana

    Dear Ms.Tillman,
This is NOT an issue of “us” vs. “them”. This is NOT an issue of race or religion, what sect of Hassidism one practices or what color of skin one has (and you should note that there are also many black Jews, including ones who live in the Crown Heights community).
This is a human MORAL issue that any descent MORAL human being including yourself should support that no child, no matter of what race or religion, deserves to have rocks thrown [-and rocks so large and thrown with such force that they break windows-] at their school-bus on their way home from school. This is an issue of protecting innocent young children traveling home from school that are in no way provoking an attack from acts of violence.
As American Citizens we must all take whatever steps possible and necessary to ensure that children in America can travel safely to and from school without being pelted with rocks and we must all work together to put an end to violence especially amongst the youth of our country. Certainly this is a worthy cause that you as an upright noble American Citizen who has a love and respect for humanity would stand behind and advocate for. Certainly you would agree that these young innocent children sitting on their school bus did not bring on this attack and do not deserve to be attacked as much just as any other child regardless of race or religion does not deserve to be a victim of violence. We all have to work together to do what we can to bring an end to acts of violence.
    Yours Truly, Ilana

  • DO IT

Someone STEP UP! Be a vocal in the community like Al Sharpton! Make sure we are heard!

  • They prey on the weak

Ms tildon, with all due respect.
the reason it is only crown heights is because crown heights is the only community that lives with black ppl. Other communities dont. Do you know what happens in a place like williamsburgh? If there is a mugging or something the chassidim beat the crap out of those kids leaving him there without calling the police. So the blacks know that, and are petrified to start up with them. Here in crown heights we are weak. They prey on the weak. You sound like a lovely woman, but unfortunately do not know what we are going through every day. Cant walk out at night alone, cant send my kids to go to their friends house, always looking over our shoulders. How do you have the nerve to say that it is our fault? Do you see jews beating up on blacks on frequent basis? You are right, other neighborhoods do not have this, because THEY WONT STAND FOR IT. Just admit there is a problem with your black youth.

  • Ariel Sokolovsky

    B“H
    Mrs Tillman is right.
While violent attackers shouldn’t be excused at the very least smiling and saying ”Hi! How are you?” when walking past our neighbors white or black can and does start to change things for the better.
I have had conversations with various people in CH and they say they often have a feeling
of being ignored by their Jewish neighbors.
The Rebbe himself has always treated all people with kindness and respect if we His Chassidim will emulate his example people will also reciprocate in kind.
