Poll: More Than 80% Say They Would Vote in A Crown Heights Vaad Hakohal Election
by CrownHeights.info
If elections for Vaad Hakohal with its control over the CHJCC would be held today, would you vote? 80% of people responded yes.
A recent poll done by CrownHeights.info on interest in new elections for the Crown Heights Vaad Hakohal came back overwhelmingly positive, with over 80% of people saying they would vote, and just under 17% saying they would not.
The present Vaad Hakohal, elected over ten years ago, retains control over the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council and its $3,000,000 plus budget a year.
An attempt at elections was held a couple of years later but dissolved into chaos. Since then, promises of new elections have repeatedly been made, and a grassroots attempt to convene Netzigim launched. It was to no avail and elections were never held.
In an article published by CrownHeights.info, the council’s yearly grants were published, showing over $18,500,000 in grants provided to the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council by Federal, State, and City governments since 2014. These grants, which include weatherization, money for victim advocacy, and more.
The interest in new elections has gained momentum after the Crown Heights community turned out in force for the mid-term elections, putting out over 5,000 votes and turning the voter map red in the Crown Heights area.
Since then, an Op-Ed calling for elections has been shared widely, gaining steam and interest among the community.
Mushkie
In yiddish there is an expression: “es shtinkt foon kop” – the stink isn’t from the smelly feet but from the head.
The people fighting to become elected, do so not to serve but to be served. Indeed, self service rather than community service.
They fight for the position for their self interests. Hence, they aren’t there for communal or individual interests.
The council was founded by coruption.
Mushkie
The entire CHCC was founded by corruption.
The elections were established by Rebbe to uproot the coruption.
Non-elections ressurects the corruption reverting the CHCC to its roots.
A corrupt organization run by hoodlums to line their own pockets with government funds. Shame on them!
A charpa and a shanda!
Shame on us. Shame on our rabbonim.
Real change
Real change needs the question, will women finally he allowed to vote? And why is the budget for our large and expanding community such a pitiful 3 million dollars? What do they actually do for our community? Besides for their own salaries, is any community member actually helped in any meaningful way?
Mushkie
Those that need the grants – don’t get them. The article makes clear that the bulk of the grants ends up fattening the few wealthy landlords. CHJCC shame!
People come pleading at the CHJCC for assistance with grants such as HEAP and get turned away (many in our community end up getting help in Williamsburg or BoroPark).
Shame on us for allowing this sorry state of affairs. THIS IS A SHANDA!!

Those that want the change are bigger crooks than the ones running it now. Better to have an old crook with full pockets than a newer crook with empty ones
