We Elected Brian Cunningham, and Now he Has To Get Re-Elected in June

by CrownHeights.info

Just a week after Crown Heights united for a second time and paved the path for an election victory, residents were surprised to find that the winning candidate was still running for an election.

Door knockers and pamphlets asked the Crown Heights community to come out and vote for Brian Cunningham in an election set for June 29th.

The reason for that stems from how we ended up with a special election to begin with.

The 43rd Assembly District seat in Albany had been vacated by long-time representative Diana C. Richardson and was set for Tuesday, March 22nd. Richardson had accepted the post of Deputy Borough President for Brooklyn, meaning she was unable to continue in her role as an assemblywoman.

The 43rd Assembly District, which covers nearly the entire Crown Heights Jewish community with the exception of the area of Remsen Village and North of Eastern Parkway from Kingston Ave towards Utica, came out in very small numbers in the special election. Handing Brian Cunningham the win with the help of the hundreds of Jewish voters who flocked to the polls.

Now, less than two weeks after winning, Cunningham is back on the campaign “trail” as he has to defend his seat in the regular elections this June.

With just a week in Albany, it remains to be seen if Cunningham will defend the Crown Heights Jewish community’s interests, or if he will again be endorsed by the local political groups in the upcoming election.

Thank you for being on this early. Please stay on it and please report on anything good any of these people do for our community. We could and should muster thousands not hundreds of voters.
