Celebrating Chanukah – Hawaiian Style!
Over 100 Yidden (both local and visitors) gathered to watch a beautiful ‘Hawaiian style’ tiki menorah being lit on the 1st night of Chanukah. The event was organized by “Gani” – Chabad-Lubavitch of Kauai.
The idea was to use bamboo and tiki-torches, which are part of island-style-living, in performance of the Mitzvah, thus synthesizing heaven (the G-dly) and earth (worldly) in a uniquely Hawaiian Jewish way.
Among other Chanukah activities, the Shluchim created this unique car Menorah (although not fit for the Mitzvah), taking Hawaiian Surf Culture to another (higher) level. Once again, elevating the local sport (Hawaiians invented the surf-board and surfing) toward a G-dly purpose.
The Message: The Menorah (i.e. board) enables one to stay above the ‘stormy seas’ and ‘turbulent tides’ of the world. The Flames (i.e. fins) assist one in navigating the currents, and finding balance in one’s Divine service.
These events and productions were organized by Rabbi Michoel & Zisel Goldman, The Rebbe’s Shluchim to Kauai – Hawaii’s Garden Island.

Al pi Halacha a ‘torch’ is not a Kosher menorah. Hope no brocho was said on an invalid menorah.
