Wooden Structure Goes Up at President and Kingston

On Sunday, people in Crown Heights noticed builders putting up a wooden structure on the lot next to the old Gombos at President and Kingston.

The crew started in the morning. They laid 2×4 floor framing across part of the lot while a worker checked a hand-drawn floor plan at the fence. A box truck at the curb held more lumber and panels.

By night, the builders had the walls up. They framed a long front along the fence with a row of deep, window-like bays and put an LED strip along the top of each one. Workers on ladders drilled white panels onto the framing under the streetlights. More frames lay against the fence, waiting to go up.

The crew built the structure on wooden framing over the lot, with no poured foundation, so it looks temporary.

With the Kinus this week, many think the timing is no coincidence.
