After a Flood of Requests, Spanish-Speaking Women’s Retreat Returns to Panama
Jewish women from across the Spanish-speaking world will once again gather in Panama City this spring for Oasis Espiritual, a retreat of learning, inspiration, and community held entirely in Spanish.
Now in its third year, the retreat will take place May 13–16, 2027 (6–9 Iyar, 5787), and is open to Jewish women ages 20 and up.
The retreat is organized by Merkos 302 Español, the Spanish Desk of Merkos 302, led by Rabbi Chai Kohan. The department provides Shluchim with fully translated, culturally adapted materials for Spanish-speaking communities in Latin America, Spain, and North America. Its work ranges from holiday guides and Haggadahs to CTeen and CKids programming, adult classes, and Spanish-language trips to the Ohel.
Oasis Espiritual grew out of that work. For many Spanish-speaking women, especially in smaller communities, chances to learn and connect with other Jewish women in their own language are rare, and most retreats are held in English or Hebrew.
Over four days, participants will hear lectures, take part in workshops, enjoy gourmet meals and outings, and spend an uplifting Shabbos together. Organizers say a few surprises are planned as well.
The first two years drew women from several Spanish-speaking countries. This year the program is expanding to make room for more participants, with a lineup of new speakers.
“Following the retreat this past April, I was contacted by many women who had heard about the program and were eager to know whether another would take place,” said Rabbi Chai Kohan, who leads Merkos 302 Español. “It was then that our team recognized the tremendous interest in, and need for, this program.”
“In response, we began preparing for this year’s retreat immediately,” he continued. “That early start has enabled us to accommodate a larger group than in the past two years, and to devote the time needed to build an exceptional program that will have a deeply positive impact on every participant.”
To mark the third year, organizers are giving away one free pass to the retreat. To enter, follow @oasis.espiritual_ on Instagram and tag a friend in the comments of the official giveaway post. The prize covers the retreat pass only; airfare is not included.
