In a moving display of gratitude following the frightening Flydubai incident earlier this week, Dr. Shota Musaev, who assisted the pilot during the ordeal, visited the Chabad synagogue in the New Nechalat Yehuda neighborhood of Rishon LeZion on Friday to recite Birchas Hagomel.

Musaev arrived at the Chabad shul together with his family, where he publicly thanked Hashem for his deliverance from danger by reciting the traditional blessing of Hagomel.

Following the bracha, the Chabad rabbi blessed Dr. Musaev and his family with health, safety and protection, and offered a special prayer for the safety of the people of Israel.

The emotional gathering then turned into a celebration of thanksgiving, with family members and members of the local Chabad community joining together in song and dance.

Dr. Musaev had been aboard the Flydubai flight involved in the attempted attack and played a role in assisting the pilot during the incident. The dramatic episode was subsequently described by officials as a serious terror incident.

The gathering at Chabad of Rishon LeZion provided an opportunity for the community to join Dr. Musaev in expressing gratitude for his safe return and to thank Hashem for the lives that were spared.

The event also highlighted the role of Chabad shuls throughout Israel as places where Jews and their families can come together not only for tefillah, but also during moments of personal gratitude, communal concern and thanksgiving.
