Kollel Helps Anash Worldwide Reclaim Iyun

For many Shluchim and Anash, Gemara B’Iyun belongs to an earlier stage of life. Years after yeshiva, the demands of shlichus or business, other learning commitments, together with family responsibilities, can make returning to that kind of intense learning feel almost impossible.

Kollel Iyun HaTalmud was created for Shluchim and Anash who want to return to regular Gemara B’Iyun but need a framework that can fit around shlichus or a busy work schedule.

“Learning Gemara be’iyun does not have to remain something associated only with yeshivah years,” said Rabbi Mendy Kotlarsky, director of Merkos 302. “With the right framework, a busy shliach or member of Anash can make a consistent Iyun seder part of his schedule.”

Participants can choose between two tracks, Guided Iyun and Advanced Iyun. Both learn the same sugya, but at different levels of depth and independence.

Guided Iyun is built around a three-to-five-hour weekly commitment. Participants join two guided sugya shiurim with Rabbi Dov Popack and a twice-monthly lomdus shiur with Rabbi Mendel Krasnjanski. They also receive a sugya booklet conveniently divided by week and take part in regular talking-in-learning.

For those looking for a longer, more in-depth seder, Advanced Iyun calls for roughly six to ten hours a week. Participants learn advanced sources themselves, join Rabbi Krasnjanski’s weekly lomdus shiur, receive weekly Iyun guidance from Rabbi Moshe Wolberg, and attend a twice-monthly halacha shiur with Rabbi Mendel Prescott.

The support does not end when the shiur does. Maggidei shiurim and a dedicated meishiv are available during the week for questions. Rabbi Shua Slavin, the Kollel’s Menahel Poel, follows up with participants, making sure they are growing in their learning. He also helps pair Chavrusos when needed.

A WhatsApp group gives Chaverei HaKollel a place to continue discussing each week’s sugya with the Rabbonim and Meishivim. A second group is available for general halachic questions. Marei mekomos and chazara sheets are sent for each sugya, with basic Mareh Mekomos as well as advanced for those with more time.

The Kollel encourages participants to arrange their own in-person chavrusa when possible but is happy to help pair those who are unable to do so. Participants can also move between tracks as their schedule or learning needs change.

Tuition is $110 a month for Guided Iyun and $175 a month for Advanced Iyun, with reduced rates of $50 and $100 respectively for members of Kollel Dach or other Kollels. Scholarships are available on a case-by-case basis, and further discounts are listed on the Kollel website.
