Siyum and Hachnasas Sefer Torah this Wednesday in Memory of Yehudah Taibe
Just over one year ago, on 25 Tamuz 5785, our community was shaken by the tragic news of the untimely passing of Yehuda Taieb ע”ה at the young age of 37 years.
Yehuda had the kindest heart. When he entered a room, everyone knew it. He radiated simchas hachaim and genuine love, care, and concern for every single Jew — zero judgment, always.
His home was always open, especially on Thursday nights for teenage boys. The goal was simple: a healthy place to meet, get love, and feel safe. Yehuda would teach them the parsha of the week and Sefer HaMidos. He taught them how to see Hashem and love Him even when it was hard. He fed them the best cholent and sat with them until 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning. He guided many of those boys to build their own homes and families.
By day, he worked in a yeshiva as the chef, ran maintenance, and taught Jewish history. The boys would skip English class — but for Yehuda’s class, every seat was full. They’d sneak into the kitchen just to speak with him. They respected him and loved him because he gave them love with no judgment.
He was an amazing brother, father, husband and son, showing true kibud av va’eim. He had deep kavod for rabbonim and for learning Torah. The excitement he got from learning was not of this world. He loved to speak and share his learning and Torah thoughts with everyone.
With Yehuda’s sudden and untimely passing, he left behind his wife Rachelli, 7 months pregnant at the time. Baruch Hashem, she gave birth early — just five weeks after his passing — to a healthy baby boy. His son is named after him: Netanel Yehuda. What a gift he is. He brought so much light into a world of darkness.
Yehuda left behind 5 children: Yisroel, Nissim Yitzchak, Aviva, Tehila, and Netanel Yehuda.
His family and friends have commissioned a Sefer Torah in his memory and to carry his legacy.
This Sefer Torah will be used regularly, bringing Jews together exactly as Yehuda did in life. Most of all, it will be an aliyas neshama for Yehuda ben Nissim. A source of comfort and connection for all of us who lost him.
If you knew Yehuda, you know he was all about peace, achdus, and zero judgments. He wanted all Jews to connect and love one another. At his levayah, you saw it — how many different kinds of Yidden he knew, loved, and connected to.
Over $45,500 was already raised by Yehuda’s family and some close friends. The goal is to raise another $10,000 to cover the remaining cost of the Sefer Torah/ Siyum and Hachnasa.
The Sefer Torah will be housed at the Merkaz Sefarad Shul in Crown Heights were Yehudah used to daven and deliver Divrei Torah before he moved to Monsey and then to Flatbush. It is also the shul where his parents Davened for over 20 years. One day, his children will hopefully lain from this Torah.
As his first Yahrzeit, 25 Tamuz, was within the three weeks of 17 Tamuz – 9 Av, and at the suggestion of our Rabbonim, the Sefer Torah dedication was postponed to his 38th birthday, Wednesday 15 Av/ July 29th.
