Keren HaShluchim To Match Final $10K of Bonei Olam Shluchim Fund Goal This Lag BaOmer
In a show of solidarity that captures the very spirit of Lag BaOmer, the Jewish world has been galvanized to support Shluchim facing infertility. Now, Keren HaShluchim has announced a $10,000 matching grant toward the Bonei Olam Shluchim Fund’s annual campaign, bringing it to the finish line of its $90,000 goal.
The fund, which was established with the encouragement and guidance of Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky A”H in partnership with Bonei Olam, has become one of the most impactful and deeply personal initiatives in the Shlichus world.
“On this powerful day of Lag BaOmer, let’s come together and support the Shluchim and Shluchos who are the global support system of the Jewish people,” said Rabbi Mendy Kotlarsky, Director of Keren Hashluchim, who has been instrumental in driving the campaign forward. “They give everything to their communities. The least we can do is make sure they’re not alone in their most private and painful moments.”
Since its founding, the Bonei Olam Shluchim Fund has distributed over $800,000 directly to Shluchim families navigating the physically and emotionally grueling road of infertility. In the last 12 months alone, $218,000 was distributed across 21 active cases, with five babies born, Baruch Hashem, as a direct result of the fund’s support.
Each case is the story of a Shliach or Shlucha, someone who shows up every day for their community, who counsels others through heartbreak, who celebrates every simcha while privately carrying their own, facing tests, treatments, and decisions most people can never imagine. And doing it, often, in communities far from family and support networks.
“There are 21 Shliach couples right now walking through the pain of infertility,” said Rabbi Avraham Kagan of Chabad River North & Fulton Market, IL, who, together with Rabbi Shneur Brook, of Chabad of Shelton, CT, coordinates the Bonei Olam Shluchim Fund. “Each one needs our help, and they need it now.”
The campaign, which runs annually on Lag BaOmer, the yom tov associated with brachos and yeshuos, especially with regards to having children, has already raised $70,000 through the generosity of Shluchim, friends, and Keren HaChomesh. With Keren HaShluchim’s matching grant now covering the next $10,000 raised, the goal of $90,000, enough to fund five of the 21 active cases, is within reach.
Rabbi Shlomo Bochner and Zalman Katz of Bonei Olam, whose organization provides two full-time counselors dedicated to Lubavitch and Shluchim families, have worked hand in hand with the Shluchim Fund to ensure that no Shliach ever walks away from treatment due to lack of funds.
100% grassroots. 77 Shluchim assisted. 23 babies born. Over $800,000 distributed.
And today, the fund needs to be replenished.
