Beis Hora’a – AskTheRav Hotline Sees Historic Surge in Pre-Pesach Calls
In the weeks leading up to Pesach, Nisan 5786, the AskTheRav hotline, operating under the Beis Din of Crown Heights, experienced a historic surge in calls. Over just two weeks, 3,005 calls poured in from community members—Anash and Shluchim alike—seeking halachic guidance in preparation for Yom Tov.
During peak periods, several callers were on hold at once as the Rabbanim managed a continuous surge of inquiries. Despite the volume, each Rov responded with clarity and diligence, striving to ensure every question was properly addressed.
The peak day came on the 13th of Nisan, when the hotline received over 500 calls in a single day.
For perspective, Hatzalah of Crown Heights, known for their life-saving emergency work, receives over 5,500 calls annually. Yet in just two weeks, AskTheRav approached nearly half that volume.
The 71st Precinct of the NYPD received 3,975 emergency 911 calls over the course of the previous month. In contrast, AskTheRav handled over 3,000 calls in just two weeks, highlighting the intense and concentrated demand during the pre-Pesach period.
This surge was more than just numbers; it reflected the community’s deep trust in AskTheRav as a vital lifeline for reliable halachic direction whenever it is needed.
