After Years of Advocacy And Multiple Violent Incidents, Bochur Gets Banned From 770

by CrownHeights.info

A low level of simmering animosity and periodic clashes has become an accepted thing in 770 over the years, with the level of violence and damage creeping up without much action taken to prevent it. This past week, another step was taken to curb said violence with a ban placed on one of its instigators, Baruch Shneur Frishman.

In a public notice, released by the Vaad under the Gabboim of “Beit Chayeinu – 770,” the Vaad states that the decision was made “in accordance with the explicit directive of the Beit Din” and out of a responsibility to preserve both the sanctity of the shul and the safety of its worshippers. The individual named in the notice, Baruch Shneur Frishman, is prohibited from entering all areas of 770 “until further notice.”

According to the statement, the move follows multiple attempts by community leaders to assist the individual and guide him toward appropriate support and treatment. Those efforts, the notice says, were “repeatedly turned down and declined.” Additionally, he was summoned to appear before the Beit Din but failed to respond.

“The position of the Rabbanim is clear and unequivocal: there is no place for violence within the daled amot of the Rebbe,” the notice reads, emphasizing a zero-tolerance stance for disruptive behavior inside the movement’s central synagogue.

The decision to take action against Frishman appears to surround a series of incidents, including a propaganda video released by activists in 770 against Frishman, as well as an assault that ended with Frishman being maced in 770.

The development comes as tensions surrounding 770 have remained high in recent years, particularly following the discovery of the unauthorized attempt to “expand” 770, which destabilized the Kingston Ave women’s section and triggered a series of confrontations between bochurim and the authorities. Those incidents led to arrests, with some defendants accepting plea agreements and others facing trial.

In the wake of those events, community leadership has taken a firmer stance on maintaining order inside 770, including cooperating with authorities and enforcing internal restrictions on individuals deemed to pose a threat to safety or stability.

The notice published last week concluded with a call to the broader community to assist in finding a “genuine and sustainable solution” for the individual, urging anyone with influence to step forward. At the same time, it reiterates the leadership’s central goal: ensuring that “Beit Rabbeinu Sheb’Bavel” remains a welcoming and secure place for all.

While such public notices are relatively rare, they underscore the seriousness with which the leadership is now approaching issues of safety and decorum inside 770.

  • Another huge problem

Is that people smoke cigarettes inside of 770 or right next to the door. Why would anyone want to step foot in a place where I can’t even enter without inhaling second hand ciggerate smoke from inconsiderate people
