Yeka Passover Camp 2026 Brings Warmth and Renewal to Unprivileged Jewish Boys from Across Ukraine

Seventy Jewish boys from across Ukraine gathered in Zhytomyr, western Ukraine, to take part in a unique and uplifting Passover camp held on the Or Avner ‘Alumim’ campus. Organized and led by Yeka, with the support of JRNU, the Jewish United Fund, donors from across the globe, and the Jewish community of Zhytomyr under the leadership of Chief Rabbi Shlomo Wilhelm – the camp offered the campers a strong sense of stability, warmth, and genuine connection during a challenging time.

Yeka camps – committed to providing underprivileged Jewish Ukrainian children an opportunity to flourish in an environment of love and support – have earned a strong reputation for their high-spirited energies and atmosphere, while the Passover session carries a particularly special spirit.

From the opening of registration, demand exceeded expectations, with boys aged 5 to 17—both returning participants and newcomers—signing up in large numbers. Despite complex travel conditions, seventy children ultimately arrived from across the country. They were joined by a dedicated team of counselors who volunteered and traveled from all across Europe, the United States, and Australia.

A defining feature of the camp was the personal attention given to each child throughout the day, fostering a sense of belonging, care, and emotional support. For many participants, this environment provided a meaningful sense of home and stability. The program combined engaging informal lessons in Jewish tradition with hands-on workshops, holiday preparations, sports, excursions, and social activities, all designed to build confidence and Jewish pride.

On the first morning, an early alert required campers and staff to move to a shelter. The team responded calmly, ensuring the children remained engaged and reassured through games, storytelling, and group activities. The situation was handled with sensitivity, turning a difficult moment into one of unity and resilience.

The highlight of the camp, the Passover Seder, was conducted in full accordance with tradition, offering the boys a dignified and joyful experience complete with plentiful kosher-for-Passover meals. For many, it was a deeply meaningful opportunity to celebrate the holiday in a supportive and enriched setting.

The camp continued through the Shabbat following Passover, adding further fun to the experience. Preparations included challah baking, followed by uplifting prayers, songs, and festive meals shared together.

The dedicated team included head counselors Leibel Lipsker and CHM, program director Motty Kleinman, and camp directors Rabbi Levi Berger and Yasha Lerner, all working together to create a memorable and strengthening holiday experience for every participant.
