BDE: Mrs. Rochel Pinson, 102, OBM
With great sadness we report the passing of Mrs. Rochel Pinson OBM, a senior Shlucha to North Africa.
She was 102 years old.
Born in Leningrad, USSR, in 1923, Mrs. Pinson was the daughter of Rabbi Yitzchok Raskin, a shochet and chasid who was murdered by the Soviets for his unwavering devotion to Torah. Orphaned at a young age and shaped by persecution, war, and loss, she carried an iron willed commitment to Judaism and the Jewish people throughout her life. She served as dedicated emissary of the Rebbe for more than 70 years
Together with her husband, Rabbi Nissan Pinson, she was sent by the Rebbe to help Jewish life in North Africa, beginning in the early 1950s, first in Morocco and, later, in Tunisia. After her husband’s passing in 2007, she continued overseeing Chabad in Tunisia, traveling frequently between France and Tunis.
She is survived by her children: Rabbi Yosef Pinson (Nice-Côte d’Azur), Mrs. Faigy Hecht (Cap Ferrat, France), Mrs. Tscherna Matusof (Cannes, France), Rabbi Nochum Pinson (Brunoy, France), and Rabbi Shmuel Pinson (Brussels, Belgium).
The Levaya will take place in Eretz Yisroel.

The light of a shining example of a Chabad shlucha, a matriarch and a friend has just dimmed.
Rebbetzen Rochel inspired, taught and warmed the hearts and souls of thousands.
With wisdom and joy.
A pleasure and an honor to have known such an exemplary lady, my friend – whom i respected and loved.
May she continue to live through her beautiful family.
May they be comforted.
