R’ Danny Cohen was born in Brooklyn, and his family moved to Israel when he was 6 years old.
Danny grew closer to Chabad as he grew older, and met The Lubavitcher Rebbe at age 18.
Danny served in the IDF’s Givaati Brigade, and continues to participate in Reserve Duty well beyond his obligation to do so.
Committed to the idea of Shlichus, Danny and his wife Batsheva opened the first-ever “Chabad House” in Hebron, in 2002.
Hebron includes many sites of Biblical History, most notably the Cave of Makhpela, the burial site of the Biblical Couples Adam & Eve, Abraham & Sarah, Isaac & Rebecca, Jacob & Leah.
Hebron is one of Israel’s most popular tourist destinations, with an estimated 1 Million annual tourists, and the Cohen Family is on hand for anyone who has a need.
Every year on the week that the Torah Portion of Chayei Sarah is read, Hebron is inundated by an estimated 30,000 visitors, and the Cohen’s host an iconic Friday Night Shabbat Meal where all are welcome.
Hebron includes 10 Military Bases and an estimated 1,000 soldiers who rotate through Hebron each year. The Cohen’s established an open door policy for all these soldiers who benefit from a home away from home, and established a nightly rotation to provide physical and spiritual nourishment for soldiers on night-shift and overwatch throughout Hebron.
Danny and Batsheva live with their children in Central Hebron, and can be reached at @chabadhebron.
