BDE: R’ Shimon Horowitz, 68, OBM

With great sadness we inform you of the passing of R’ Shimon Horowitz OBM, a longtime resident of Crown Heights. He was niftar on Thursday, September 4, 2025 / י״א אלול תשפ״ה.

He was 68 years old.

R’ Shimon grew up in Bnei Brak and moved to Brooklyn as a child, where he learned in Yeshivas Torah Vodaas. Following his chasuna, he settled in Eretz Yisroel and was among the early settlers of Emanuel, where he became miskarev to Chassidus Chabad. He dedicated many years as a beloved melamed in both Eretz Yisroel and New York, and later worked as an accountant. He was known as a learned and humble Yid with a great sense of humor and a kind heart.

He is survived by his wife, Yudit Horowitz, and their children: Shoshy Ofen (Yishuv Adam, EY), Shuki Horowitz (Beitar Ilit, EY), Eliyahu Dov Horowitz (Beitar Ilit, EY), Shalom Yaakov Horowitz (Hollywood, FL), Devorah Leah Pil (Crown Heights), Levi Horowitz (New Haven, CT), Shaindy Miller (Phoenix, AZ), Mendy Horowitz (Crown Heights), Chaya Schmalberg (Crown Heights), and Rochel Epstein (Crown Heights).

He is also survived by his sister, Esther Reinitz of Boro Park, and by many grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his brother, Moti Horowitz, and by his parents, Yosef and Mina Horowitz OBM.

The Levaya will take place Motzei Shabbos, passing by 770 at 9:45pm on the way to JFK airport.
