Rebbe Book Applauded at Utah Awards Ceremony

At an event in Salt Lake City, The Oracle: Portraits of Rebbe Mendel Schneerson was honored with the prestigious Wilbur Award, presented to two members of the creative team behind the book.

“The photos are spectacular,” one of the judges said, “with a vibrancy and energy that shouldn’t seem possible in two dimensions. They engage the reader in a different way from the text, and together, it is a wonderful comprehensive look at such a special man.”

Marc Asnin, an award winning photographer, who photographed the 1992 New York Times Magazine cover story, thanked the judges for the incredible honor. “And to everyone who recognized The Oracle,” to celebrate alongside such esteemed journalists—those honored including from 60 Minutes, the Associated Press, Harper’s Magazine, the San Francisco Chronicle, and CBS Sunday Morning.”

“The Oracle tells the story of the Lubavitcher Rebbe,” Asnin said, “a political and religious refugee who embraced America as a land of opportunity. His profound presence left an enduring influence on individuals around the globe. This book reflects that connection, offering a portrait of faith, leadership, and the subtle influence of those who lead with purpose.”

Chosen from among thousands of entries—particularly in the books category—The Oracle moved one of the judges to write: “Even as a Gentile, I was touched by the comments and the photos. It is evident the impact the Rebbe has had on so many, and exactly why he is so revered.”

Another judge noted, “The design of the book and the writing definitely pulled me in to want to read and the content made it that much more engaging and intriguing. I did not expect to be so invested.”

“This award is a tribute to the diverse team who created The Oracle,” said Dovid Zaklikowski, Marcel Saba, the publisher at Redux Pictures, photographer Marc Asnin, editors Julian Anderson and Sara Ogince, “I accept this honor on their behalf as well.”

Another judge concluded: “The time and research to capture the photos and interviews is impressive; you were able to present new information and insight into both the person and the myth of the Rebbe.”
