Thee 770 Lawsuit Circus Continues With Dueling Letters, Gabboim Forced To Apologize

by CrownHeights.info

The circus that is the ongoing lawsuit between Agudas Chasidei Chabad and The Gabboim of 770 continued over the last days of sukkos with a series of dueling letters and an apology from the Gabboim.

The chain of incidents, which would be comedic if it wasn’t so sad to see, began with a Request For a Warrant of Eviction filed by the lawyers of Agudas Chasidei Chabad following a win in court earlier this year. The paperwork was officially filed by the court clerk on October 25th, the day of Simchas Torah. The Gabboim were less than pleased.

In a letter dated October 31st, the lawyer for the Gabboim wrote to the court lambasting Agudas Chasidei Chabad for filing the warrant, claiming that the previous win in court had been stayed pending yet another appeal. The letter also slams Aguch for filing on Yom Tov, a sacred day they claim made even more special as it marks a year from Hamas’s attack on the State of Israel and the Jewish people.

The letter was quickly followed by a press release, written on behalf of the Gabboim and published on a Chabad website, calling out Aguch for their actions.

But there was a “small” snag in their claim which came back to egg them in the face. Aguch’s paperwork had actually been submitted by Aguch’s lawyer days before, and was actually dated October 22nd, the day BEFORE Yom Tov and before the stay pending appeal had been filed. The clerk had just taken some days to file Aguch’s letter officially.

The Gabboim were forced to apologize in another letter the same day.

Following the motto to never let an opportunity go to waste, the lawyer for Aguch penned a response letter, turning the Gabboim’s claim back on them. It was the Gabboim who had actually filed legal paperwork on Yom Tov, and for attempting to tie their personal fights to Simchas Torah and the attack on Israel, the lawyer called the action “shameful”.

According to the lawyer for Aguch, the Gabboim’s “Order to Show Cause” had actually been served to Aguch’s lawyer on October 24th, which was Shmini Atzeres. In fact, according to the letter, the Gabboim’s lawyer was aware of this and had even excused the action by claiming that “[u]nfortunately, it was not processed / signed as quickly as anticipated and (as you can see) we were then required to serve it by yesterday.”

The dueling letters change nothing in the ongoing mess that has paralyzed 770. Instead, it has only added an extra layer of disgust surrounding the fight, or perhaps a laugh for those inclined.
