A Record? 41 Chassanim Got Ufruf Aliyos by the Rebbe This Past Shabbos

Forty-one Chassanim getting married this week were called up to the Torah for their Ufruf in 770 and the Ohel over Shabbos, making what is possibly a record week for this minhag.

The Chassanim were called up to the Torah in six different “Kriyos” of the Torah in the main shul of 770, the Rebbe’s Room, and at the Ohel.

The breakdown was as follows:

– The Rebbe’s Room: 19 Chassanim were called up in three “Kriyos

– Main Shul of 770: 16 Chassanim were called up in 2 “Kriyos”

– Ohel: 6 Chassanim were called up, one by Shacharis and one by Mincha

The Minhag to to hold the Ufruf Aliyah – the calling up of a soon-to-be Chosson to the Torah on the Shabbos before their wedding – by the Rebbe, goes back to Tof Shin Yud when the then Rebbe instituted the custom to do the Ufruf by the Frierdiker Rebbe.

Since then the Minhag has persisted, and as Lubavitch has grown, the number of weekly Chassanim has as well.
