Released Time Lights Up 400 Plus Homes

In celebration of Chanukah, the Released Time Program under the NCFJE embarked on an uplifting journey lifting the spirits of public school children’s families across New York.

Under the leadership of Rabbi Shazak Zirkind and spearheaded by Rabbi Sadya Engel, a team of 150 dedicated bochurim visited over 400 homes across New York city creating unforgettable moments filled with Mitzvos, joy, and light.

The Bochurim dedicated every evening of Chanukah, on a mission to assure that every Jewish child who attends public school should know the message of Chanukah and be proud that they’re Jewish.

The celebrations went beyond the lighting of the menorah. Dreidel games, filled with excitement and joy, were enjoyed alongside families, with the sharing of delicious doughnuts, enhancing the special atmosphere and leaving each family with incredible Chanukah memories.

One mother whose child attends PS. 195 in Brooklyn said, “My daughter is beginning to feel so proud of her Judaism and heritage, she even brought her dreidels to school to play with all her non Jewish friends!” Another child in ps 206 queens said excitedly “I now want to wear my kippah the whole day!”

The impact of these visits extended far beyond the immediate celebrations. More than 15 Mezuzos were placed on children’s bedroom doors and close to ten families were inspired to consider transferring their children to Jewish schools.

Released Time extends a heartfelt gratitude to the incredible Bochurim who embarked on this important Shlichus. Lighting candles in homes around the city and inspiring the flame within.
