Ahead of International Showdown, hundreds of JewQ Regional Competitions Draw Thousands of Hebrew School Participants
Ahead of the JewQ International Championships next week, hundreds of regional competitions were recently held. The tournaments spanned the globe from India to Colombia, the UK, and Australia, with over 3,500 participants from 230 Hebrew schools participating. Developed by CKids, the JewQ competition is designed to encourage Hebrew school children to learn about their Jewish heritage through an engaging curriculum, exciting incentives, and culminating in a thrilling international competition.
Since September, students in grades 3-7 have been studying and preparing for the competition, putting in countless hours of their own time to hone their knowledge and skills. The regional competitions were the culmination of their hard work, with the top students from each location competing to be crowned the JewQ Regional Champions. Each competition was marked by a strong sense of community and camaraderie, with students and their families coming together to support and encourage one another.
Proud parents Dany and Sharon Weisz of Chabad of Uptown Toronto note the effect JewQ is having on their son Asher. “We are so proud of Asher that he has taken an interest and putting in time to study Jewish principles. It’s amazing to see how far he has come in his knowledge and Jewish identity thanks to JewQ,” said Dany.
The young scholars who were crowned as the JewQ Regional Champions will now represent their local communities at the JewQ International Championship being held in Stamford, CT. The Competition will be the grand finale of the CKids Shabbaton attended by 700 students and parents, where they will come together for an exciting and inspirational Shabbos experience.
“JewQ is emblematic of the creativity that Chabad utilizes to reach the younger generation. The innovation to bring Judaism to their level is essential. It works and is successful,” said Rabbi Shmuel Kaplan, head shliach of Maryland, which held a regional competition for Hebrew schools in the state.
Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, Vice Chairman of Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch, congratulated the students on their achievements, saying, “It is amazing to see the passion and dedication of these young students to learn and connect with their Yiddishkeit. The JewQ program has become a cornerstone of Jewish education around the world, and we are thrilled to see so many children participating and thriving in the competitions.”
