Tragedy on the Virgin Islands: Friends of Federmans Launch Campaign

On Tuesday evening tragedy struck on the Virgin Islands when the four-month-old daughter of Rabbi Asher and Henya Federman, the Shluchim on the island, fell into the water of the marina. The couple both jumped into the water to try to save their baby, and in the process, Henya got stuck underwater for an extended period of time.

Passersby were finally able to rescue Henya and resuscitate her. Rachmana l’itzlan the baby, Shternie, passed away, and her body was pulled out of the water sometime later. Meanwhile, Henya is on life-support fighting for her life, after being transported to Miami for critical medical care.

Baby Shternie’s levaya took place in Old Montefiore Cemetery in New York late Thursday afternoon.

To help the Federman family through this unimaginable ordeal, friends and relatives have set up a fund to assist in alleviating the Federmans of their financial concerns as they focus on Henya’s ongoing medical care and on caring for their 12 other children.
