BREAKING: Rabbi Shlomo Segal Removed From Crown Heights Beis Din

by CrownHeights.info

Three years after a complicated deal led to he reunification of the Crown Heights Beis Din, Rabbi Shlomo Halevi Segal, who was accepted as a member of the Beis Din, has been removed in all compacity.

A cryptic letter announcing the surprise move was posted in Crown Heights saying that he he had been removed, but provided no explanation. The move to unilaterally remove the Dayan is surprising on many levels, as it brings into question if the two undersigned Dayanim, Rabbi Avrahom Osdoba and Rabbi Yosef Braun have the legal ability to do so.

Under both the secularly binding agreement made three years ago, and a Psak made before that, Rabbi Segal was affirmed as a Dayan of the Beis Din in his own right, making the move by the two other Dayanim incredibly questionable.

Rabbi Segal, who had been legally accepted into the Beis Din as part of the deal, had previously resigned his position as a Maggid Shiur in Oholei Torah and announced his plans to delve more into assisting the community.

Having struggled my entire lifetime, for the most part unsuccessfully, with chronic mental health problems caused by being born with chemical brain deficiencies, and having lived in Crown Heights between 1986-1988 and remained on the periphery of Chabad since that time, I can only be in awe of the nature of the self-governing processes of the Frum Jewish world in general and of Chabad

Rabbi Segal is an upstanding respectable rav who has a listening ear and a clear thinking process
It is so unfortunate that the undersigned in the above letter use their position to spew hatred publicly
Crown heights needs more leadership like rabbi Segal
    What a pity

As a woman from crown heights, who recently went through a divorce I can only say that reading this article made me sad. R Segal was there for my family through extreme hardship. R Segal is an upstanding Rav and the crown heights community is desperate for the leadership he offers. Praying for unity among our leaders and Moshiach now!!

It is nice to have Rabbonim to sell your chometz and ask basic Nidda questions to, but what happens when there’s a serious situation… where does the community turn to?

This is a travesty of justice. Rabbi Segal is the only CH Rav whi is willing to hear cases in which there isn’t much profit. He has given endless hours to help families. We need a Rav like him who is willing to help the simple folk. Not just a Rav who comes to be misader kedushin and sell chometz. We need a Rav who helps people with real life issues. What a busha!
