Newark, NJ — Chabad women educators ended two days of intensive educational lectures, workshops, and symposia at their annual conference which took place Monday and Tuesday the 9th and 10th of July at the Robert Treat Conference Center in Newark N.J. Mrs. Rivkah Block shlepped from S. Antonio TX, Mrs. Fradel Bukiet from L.A. to join more than a hundred colleagues at the annual conclave.

The conference featured a number of lectures which introduced a series of challenging new educational ideas. They ranged from a presentation of the Reggio Emilia early childhood philosophy to new approaches to the integration of cutting edge technology into classrooms, a lecture on a revolutionary approach to dealing with minor learning dysfunctions and a new Hebrew language program being developed in Israel for the Diaspora.

Rabbi Michoel Seligson culled from the myriad of talks and letters of the Lubavitcher Rebbe OBM and lecture about character development. Dr. Hershel Fried, a professor at Stern College presented a series on classroom testing and evaluation, which Dr. Rochelle Green, dean of the Fischler School of Education of Nova Southeastern University made an impassioned presentation about teacher goal setting. Many other concurrent workshops and symposia created an atmosphere of total immersion in education.

“I love presenting to this group; they are so enthusiastic and dedicated to their task that make it such a pleasure” she said to Rabbi Nochem Kaplan, director of the Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch education Office, who organized the conference. Typical was an overheard comment by Mrs. Rivkah Denberg to the rabbi, as she left, tired on Tuesday “This can’t end; we’ve got to follow up; I’ll call at the end of the week, OK?

What are our schools doing to ensure our children receiving adequate chinuch ALSO in Limudei Chol , which unfortunately lags way behind the public school system in many instances.
