Lag Ba’Omer Parade to Merge with West Indian Day Parade Until 2028
PURIM 2017: As reported on CrownHeights.info, this year’s Lag Ba’Omer Parade will be the last one until 2024. Well, the last parade to fall on a Sunday, that is! “There was no way that we were going to have seven years pass without a Lag Ba’Omer Parade,” Rabbi Shimon Hecht, the parade’s organizer, told CrownHeights.info.”
The Parade Committee held an emergency meeting to come up with ideas for how to hold an annual parade without causing weekday traffic disruptions or having to obtain permits to hold the parade on a workday. After hours of deliberating, one member suggested merging the Lag Ba’Omer Parade with the West Indian Day Parade. The Committee unanimously agreed to adopt the suggestion.
“It was a no-brainer,” a Committee member told CrownHeights.info on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the contents of the meeting. “The West Indian Day Parade takes place on a legal holiday and the organizers already have all of the necessary permits.”
“The only logistical issue remaining,” he added, “is figuring out how to adjust the Lag Ba’Omer Parade’s floats, costumes, music and concessions to make them more compatible with those of the West Indian Day Parade.”
