Buzzfeed: 6 Reasons to Host CYP Gathering

Created by Kaila Phillips, the following article appeared Sunday on Buzzfeed.com, listing 6 reasons why one should organize a Chabad Young Professionals (CYP) gathering this coming weekend:

1. It’s Cool Enough to Bring Your Friends

1

According to the 175 young professionals who attended “Shabbat Florida” last weekend, anyways.

Over a rooftop “Taste of Shabbat” cocktail hour, attendees enjoyed cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, mingling and ice breakers, followed by Kabbalat Shabbat services and a four-course dinner catered by Eli’s Kitchen. The crowd enjoyed a talk by New York Times bestselling author and scholar Simon Jacobson, and the inspiring discussions on Love, Intimacy and The Meaning of Life continued until early morning. And that was just Friday night.

2. Because CYP makes the globe a whole lot smaller

2

Meeting a young Jewish professional in your specialty from hundreds or thousands of miles away isn’t so far-fetched anymore. Network, Shabbat, Food, Friends, Network. It’s what your career advisor recommends, and now your Rabbi does too.

“Individually Relevant, Internationally Connected,” Chabad Young was created to connect both the local and global young Jewish professional. With Chabad Young Professional networks launching in new cities, now is your chance to launch a branch in your neighborhood and connect with young professionals around the globe.

3. Because Havdalah

3

The beautiful Havdalah ceremony that culminates Shabbat reaches a whole new level when it’s Saturday night with 200 of your fellow young Jewish professionals. Can your city top it?

4. Because Your Weekend Plans Will Look Like This

4

Kabbalah for Dummies or that 4 Course Sushi Shabbat Dinner? Can every weekend look like this?

5. …You Don’t Even Have to Leave Your Apartment (Sweet!)

5

Chabad Young’s next global event will be in your apartment! “Young adults can host their own Shabbat dinners with Jewish friends, all with the assistance of ShabboX, aka Shabbat in a Box,” said Rabbi Beryl Frankel, CYP Global Director. “It’s pretty much a turnkey Shabbat dinner solution.”

Stay tuned!

6. Because YOU Can Create CYP in your Neighborhood

6

The next jam-packed CYP event introducing you to an exciting network of Jewish friends could be in your neighborhood – and you can make it happen.

“The Jewish world has shifted,” says Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, Vice-Chairman of Chabad Headquarters. “Judaism is not confined to the synagogue, or even to a Chabad House. Whether your Shabbat dinner is at a community space or in the comfort of your own home, you are directly engaging with something Jewish in the real world.”

Case in point? The successful launch of Chabad Young Miami with “Shabbat Florida” was orchestrated by 3 young Jewish professionals like yourself.

“What’s so incredible about CYP is that it brings together people from various Jewish backgrounds, who may not even know each other, and it does it in such a special way”, according to Rabbi Mendy Kotlarsky, Executive Director of Merkos Suite 302.

  • Shocking

Who is taking responsibility to go against the way the Rebbe set up Chabad with high standards of tznius “bli shum taruvos ” and in the name of Chabad
Very sad , and very sad for all these young sincere couples misled to think this is shlichus when every older shliach / chosid remembers how strongly and the Rebbe spoke against mixed events ……

  • It's takeh incredible

that there is no guidelines for Shluchim, and events like this are promoted against the Rebbe’s very specific horo’os. A Shliach who blatantly disregards halacha and the Rebbe’s horo’os should not get a “shout out” but a “get out.”
Lubavitch oriented websites should ban the posting of such items, and maybe someone would get the message.
    U’mesaymim b’tov: Moshiach NOW

  • Well said

Glad to see there are still those out there that remember what high standards the Rebbe demanded
No compromise ,highest standards .sooo painful to see this event in the name of Chabad .absolutley no resemblance to shlichus of the Rebbe

  • Chabad headquarters

    Merkos is not chabad headquarters
But rather a part of headquarters

You don’t realize the impact these events have on not yet religious young Jews. They decide to marry Jews. That’s HUGE! They begin doing mitzvahs and take on shabbos and kashrush! So you believe it is better to have separate events that wouldn’t attract these young professionals. I’m a shlucha with children going to go on shlichus. CYP is “Living with the times”.
