Sydney Parents and Children Unite to Receive Torah

On Wednesday morning, 2 Sivan (May 20), close to 750 parents, grandparents, and children gathered to learn together for 40 minutes at Kesser Torah College in Sydney. The project, called Generation Sinai, is aimed at connecting the generations in unity in preparation for receiving the Torah on Shavuot.

The program (which originated in South Africa and was developed a few years ago by Chief Rabbi Warren Goldstein), was coordinated in Sydney by BINA (led by Rabbi Michoel Gourarie) in partnership with KTC and its principal Rabbi Noteh Glogauer.

Spread over three locations on the KTC campus, the buzz was amazing and the excitement and enthusiasm could be felt throughout the school.

With material generated by the talented school leadership, everyone engaged in the same topic – “The link from us all the way back to Mt. Sinai.”

With one family there were 4 generations studying together: Liba Joseph (KTC student), Dvora Leah Joseph (mother), Aviva Itkin (grandmother) and Judy Amzalak (great-grandmother). By an incredible stroke of Divine Providence, the very day was the Yartzeit (passing) of Liba’s great-great-grandfather, Mr. Moshe Stark, who dedicated his life to Jewish education. These generations coming together was the best way to highlight the eternal Jewish chain and this year’s theme.

After the program, the parents and students were treated to morning tea and refreshments.
