HaMesivta Creates Revolutionary Gemara Program

Rabbi Moshe Lieblich and Rabbi Chananya Hoffinger of HaMesivta recently undertook a revolutionary program: an in-depth Gemora lesson plan for teachers. This novel method of teaching will enable student to participate in the Gemora lesson through innovative teaching techniques and stimulating classes.

This creative method of teaching will engage and challenge the children’s minds with powerpoints, worksheets and quizzes. Gemora classes will come to life with daily slideshows and enlarged text visuals. As technology advances, this program advances the quality of this timeless and fundamental class.

Children thrive off routine. The daily lesson plan will include a refreshingly organized structure of learning. Every day, students will begin the lesson with a slide show depicting an overview of the day’s class, and conclude with a comprehensive summary. Consistent quizzes and paced quotas will help the students know what to expect from Gemora class; the consistency will enable each child to feel confident and empowered.

The classes will be divided into daily lessons, providing the teachers with clear guidelines and prepared lessons. Teachers will be handed an inclusive lesson plan to guide them through every step of the way. The Mesivta is pioneering a groundbreaking opportunity for teachers; even the most well-used sources that teachers turn to for ideas and resources, don’t offer any entirely inclusive lessons. The teachers will no longer have to search and sort through hundreds of uploaded worksheets – they will be handed a years’ worth of prepared material on a silver platter.

WONDERFUL! THEY CAN SPREAD THIS LEARNING TO OTHER PEOPLE WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM IT BY POSTING IT ONLINE AND CHARGING A DOLLAR PER LESSON ON A WEEKLY BASIS.THIS WILL HELP BOCHURIM IN OTHER YESHIVAS, BALLEI TSHUVA, AND BALLE BATIM

Wow looks like an amazing program, it’s about time we have a program like this for Gemara

Good luck Rabbi Lieblich and thank you

  • Iccchhh Organized Learning

This will take the life and randomness out of learning gemorah. This will make our learning on par with the secular world.

  • FINALLY

So that means teachers will have well organized lesson plans and a quota for each day??? and the power point looks like it makes it so clear
sounds like something I would have liked to have in my school.
keep up the good work Rabbi Lieblich

I always wondered why our school’s don’t have any structure? our teachers are given the keys to the classroom and told to teach gemara… our teachers are amazing but they need tools and we have to give it to them. This sounds like someone is working on it..
    Way to go

as a rebbi and parent, how can I get a hold of this curriculum? can i buy it? please post more info.

  • Awesome

I hope Oholei Torah will get this, so many of the kids don’t understand the Gemara , this visual idea is great, good going to all those involved!!

I’d like to add a little bit so people can better understand and appreciate this program:

    1) Instead of a Bachur coming into class and jumping straight into the text without having any idea what will occur in the Gemara (will it be 3 questions on the logic of the Mishnah, a supporting Braisa, or something else), the Bachur receives a clear overview beforehand.

    2) One of the main aspects of the visual is that it’s in the form of a flow chart. This helps the Bachur to see where each piece belongs and in relation to what it is presented.

    3) Another unique quality is the Tzuras Hadaf projected onto the whiteboard with the current words being highlighted. Many Bachurim struggle to find the line and place on time to be part of the class and this causes them to miss parts and eventually not be able to participate.

    4) Additionally, since everything is already prepared, the class flows without the regular breaks that can disrupt the class. Like the teacher having to write up a whole chart on the whiteboard.

    5) There are many more benefits and helpful parts to this program.

This program will hopefully extend to other subjects as well. It has already been started in Chumash, Halachah, other Gemaras, Sichos, the structure of the Beis Hamikdash, Jewish history, as well as a PowerPoint focused on Chabad history?

I’d like to acknowledge the donors in Crown Heights that funded the laptops, projectors, and other equipment that we needed. Without it this idea would’ve just remained an idea.

Can you post these classes, powerpoints online? If curriculum could be prepared on every yiddishe subject, in a gradually progression of skills and depth of content, presented in a thorough way so ppl could actually have a picture in their mind of the concepts, perhaps we could make our mesorah so much more accessible and relevant to the too many of our boys that are not making it through the system. Who knows how many kids that are labelled as at risk or drop outs, simply need the material presented in a more visual way.
Imagine these could be posted online for a bochur the night before its taugh in class, he could review it, pause it and work on processing the information in the privacy of his home, at his own pace, and rebbis could use class time for chazara, chavrusa, practice reading inside. I see so much potential here if this keeps growing. And efficiency piece here is that it needs to be prepared just once and can be used indefinitely by as many teachers who can appreciate its value and are openminded enough for change.

amazing Chananya! Kol HaKavod!! the powerpoints are amazing!! this is exactly what we need for the new generation! – to make the learning interesting and alive!! Here the students can enjoy the satisfaction of really understanding what they are studying..

A HUGE yashar Koach to Rabbi Chananya Hoffinger!

He is dedicated, loving, assertive, hard working and a terrific teacher who knows how to give over information from our holy scriptures in the most comprehensive intellectual way.
He has taken the time for hours on hours of HIS OWN TIME to put together this unbelievable program which every Yeshiva can benefit from. United Lubavitch Yeshiva of Ocean Parkway has the great advantage of having him on their staff.
    We need more of you!!!!!
