Boruch Dayan Hoemes: Mrs. Luba Zarchi, 94, OBM

With sadness we inform you of the passing of Mrs. Luba Michla bas Basya Chaya Yenta Zarchi, OBM, a survivor of the holocaust who was moiser nefesh for yiddishkeit and a longtime resident of Crown Heights. She was 94 years old.

Luba Zarchi was born in Gorki, Russia, in 1920. When WWII broke out she fled with her family and survived the holocaust. She managed to escape the clutches of the Nazis, and met her husband, Rabbi Avrohom Meyer Zarchi, OBM. After the war they settled in the Poking DP [Displaced Persons] camp in Germany.

With their children they were moiser nefesh in keeping Halacha, Yiddishkeit and giving their children a proper yiddisher education. They emigrated to the United States ahead of Pesach in 1951, and settled in Crown Heights.

Her husband merited to be a Chossid of the Frierdiker Rebbe, and a Shada”r of the Rebbe, traveling around the United States and spreading the Torah of the Rebbe. He was a great scholar, proficient in the entire Shas and was known as an amazing maskil. He was well known for his excellent ability to explain difficult concepts in chassidus clearly and understandably.

He passed away at the untimely age of 59.

She is survived by her children, Mrs. Leah Kalmanson (Crown Heights), Rabbi Shlomo Zarchi (Crown Heights), Mrs. Gitty Fisher (Jerusalem, Israel), and Rabbi Hirshel Zarchi (Crown Heights).

The Levaya will take place Wednesday, November 26. It will depart from Shomrei Hadas Chapels at 1:30pm and pass in front of 770 at 2:15pm.

She was a remarkable woman blessed with a photographic memory which her son the Mashpia Reb Shlomo inherited.
She knew the names and birthdays of all her Einiklach, Ur Einiklach and Ur Ur Einiklach.
She was a treasure trove of stories about the Chasidim of yesteryear Reb Nisen and many more.
    She will be sorely missed.
She should be a Guter Beter

Bubby Luba will be missed. I will always remember seeing her grand daughter Chanie Zweibel bringing her supper every single night and making sure someone made kiddush for bubby on Shabbos . Amazing!
