Chabad Hosts Daf Yomi Siyum in Paris

A siyum was celebrated in Paris, France over the completion of the Shas in the Daf Yomi cycle – after seven and a half years. Rabbi Yechiel Kalmanson, Rosh Yeshiva of Tomchei Temimim in Brunoy, delivered the siyum.

Attending the siyum were many distinguished rabbonim, including: Rabbi Frankfurter and Rabbi Rotenberg of the “Ichud Hacharedi,” and Rabbi Cohen; the Av Beis Din of Paris. Many students from the Yeshiva in Brunoy were in attendance as well.

The event took place in the Beis Chaya Mushka girls’ School.

  • Daf HaYomi

Based on your reporting I would think that this is one of the Rebbe’s Takonos. Somehow we never heard anything from the Rebbe about the Daf HaYomi, so while it is a great thing (I actually do it) we should distinguish between the Rebbe’s Takonos and other good things that we may participate in as outsiders.

I hope that thesee “freindly” Rabanim will now recipracate and participate in Chabad functions such as Siyum HaRambam, etc.

  • Mendel

I had no idea anyone in Chabad learned daf yomi? I wonder how many people calling themselves Chabad actually learn daf yomi?

  • Snag

Why should you participate as an outsider? Are you as Jewish as anyone else? Daf Yomi is something done by all Shomer Shabbos Yidden, regardless of affiliation.

This is not a takana that is shovo lchol nefesh. In its early stages , there were Gdolei yisorel who were not endorsing it. it therefore has no place to post on a Chabad site.

  • Avrahom

Hi, number 3. When is last time you opened up a Gemara? How can you put down people who learn Torah?

  • Mendel

Dear Avrahom. I was certainly not putting down lomdey Torah. My point was that a regular baal Habayis in Chabad doesnt learn at all. Nevermind Daf Hayomi.

Nobody is putting any one down. This is not our avoda. the Rebbe Maharash said to learn gemoro every day and did not say a daf.
(See Sichos 5700 pg.144). This is our Guideline!

no one is putting down ppl. learning Torah. this takana was simply not accepted by distinguished Gedolei Yisorel at the time this started. The Rebbe’im felt that this is not shovo lchol nefesh or for klal yisorel.

The Rebbe Maharash said one should learn very day Gemoro (note: does not say a daf)(see Sichos 5700 pg. 144) and this is for us Chassidei Chabad our guideline!

  • Daf

I can’t believe that some people are against learning Torah
What is better? To learn daf yoni or nothing?
BH I learn daf yomi. there are DVD s. and online sites plus arts chroll .you can get a lot more Torah knowledge than learning anything else!
Hup arayn , we start in few days again,,
