Special Sefer Completes Circle After 70 Years

In honor of Vov Tishrei, Rebbetzin Chana’s yahrtzeit, the talmidim of Oholei Torah Elementary School received a special Sefer, From Day to Day, one of the first Seforim printed by Kehos for children, which the Rebbe prepared and Rabbi Nissan Mindel transcribed to English. This was done under the auspices of the Frierdiker Rebbe.

Rabbi Sholom Ber Schapiro, Rabbi Mindel’s son-in-law, graciously presented over 1000 books to the children in the school, and met with many of the talmidim, explaining the importance and urgent concern the Rebbeim had for the chinuch our children.

The Melamdim received a copy of a 3 page letter from the Rebbe from 1944, written to Mr. Julius Stulman, who sponsored the initial costs of the printing of the book. In the letter the Rebbe stresses the importance of proper chinuch. It is interesting to note that Mr. Stulman was a member of the former Brooklyn Jewish Center, which today houses the talmidim of Oholei Torah, this is yet another link in the connection that began with Mr. Stulmans’s original contribution 70 years ago.

Rabbi Joseph Rosenfeld, Executive Director of Oholei Torah, thanked Rabbi Schapiro for his efforts of re-connecting the talmidim with our historical past. The initiative was coordinated by Rabbi Hershel Lustig, Dean.

As the sefer begins its learning cycle from Tishrei, it was a most proper time for the talmidim to receive it. The Talmidim happily went home with the new gift, and will share the exciting history with their families on this auspicious day.
