  • Call of the Shofar?? all over again???

How are these people any different because SOME of what they say is true? Listen to the interview. They are proudly in disagreement with the Rebbes views and against the literal account of Creation. and much more in their personal/public lives.

How are the Shluchim promoting these spokespeople?? Where are OUR leaders? Achair also had lots to teach and ONLY Rabbi Meir was able to get the good from the bad.

  • omg! how short sighted

People have an opportunity to learn about the Rebbe. It’s not a book about Telushkin. It’s about the Rebbe. If a Lubavitcher wrote it, he would have little credibility outside Lubavitch. The fact that a non Lubavitcher wrote it, is what makes it worth the time of an outsider to read. What happened when a Lubavitcher wrote a book (Miller)? To gain credibility as objective, he had to write about the Rebbe the way a chossid never would. Writing a book about the Rebbe in a way that it can gain mainstream appeal is dirty business. Better to keep our own away from authoring it.

  • to # 2 literal account of Creation.

That’s is not being discussed in the book, it’s Denise’s personal opinion.

for background – see the Rebbe’s Igros 13 page 137 and nore

  • Totally agree with #2

The whole circus of promoting in Chabad only Telushkin’s book (by an entity that has its own interests in mind), and not the Rebbe and his teachings, is short sighted: We need to create a demand for the Rebbe’s message, not another PR campaign to try and force a book on to a best seller list.

It’s one thing if the promotional campaign was targeting secular readers. The entire effort is targeting shluchim and chabad friends — the same circle and orbit, who should be learning and pushing the Rebbe’s words, not just propaganda campaigns.

Why do so many feel so insecure that they need to resort to superficial tactics. Is Chassidus and the Rebbe’s Torah not good enough to offer the world?

Just imagine what the Rebbe would be saying about this.

  • Mendy Dalfin

He wrote a Biography about the Rebbe – he is not the Rebbe’s Biographer…..Major difference there.

  • thoughts...

These two men are phenomenal and have contributed to Torah and yiddshkyt more than the overwhelming majority. Not trying to bash those who don’t contribute, but please understand that these two are gedoilim in their own right.

No one is perfect, or has exactly your views, but please do not discredit them for you and many many others will miss out from true torah Judaism is your throw them out with the bath water.

  • to # 7

with that kind of thinking, so has the conservative and reform movements.

Maybe Shluchim who many have become almost like conservative in philosophy, openly promote the movement, BECAUSE they do ALSO promote Jewish causes like going to shul on shabbos and other “Jewish” concepts.

this writer especially on the Rebbe is chazer treif no matter what good he ALSO promotes. Just like we would not promote, we better be not promoting any Conservative programs because they are fundamentally not in the proper spirit this book too and Prager should be michutz lemachanainu.

  • wall street journal

Book review sees it clearly. Steinsaltz book is more spiritual and more tzum inyan while Telushkin might as well be writing about some regular guy.

If a conservative rabbi writes a Torah according to the Rebbe who says they are minim and apikursim leminaihem you know where that Torah belongs. The same should be for this book of his. Publicity for this turn coat is appaling.
