Girls Create ‘Park’ Out of Shabbos Laws

Tell Me and I will Forget
Show Me and I will Remember
Involve Me and I will Understand

Bais Chaya Mushka of Los Angeles, California applied these powerful words before tackling a hard and seemingly tedious subject.

This year, when teaching the Lamed Tes (39) Melachos (types of work) that are forbidden on Shabbos, the teachers of Bais Chaya Mushka Elementary school in Los Angeles, California showed colorful pictures, hands-on tools, and brought in everything besides their kitchen sinks to teach the difficult subject to their students.

The girls were not only excited while learning the different Melachos and dos and don’ts of Shabbos, but also really understood each Melacha’s details and practical application.

Each girl chose one Melacha and presented it along with the Av Melacha in a creative display at the Lamed Tes Melachos Fair.

The girls of Morah Mushky Yiftach’s 3rd Grade decided to take this to the next level with Achdus. After each Melachah that was learned, one girl was chosen to create a clay model “acting out” that Melachah in a park setting. Finally, after the last Melacha of Hotza’ah (carrying), the girls came together with a beautiful masterpiece of their “Lamed Tes Melachos Park.”
