Thai Authorities: Chabad Was Not the Target

Chabad Center in Bangkok, Thailand

A week after Israeli and American officials tipped off Thai authorities about a Hezbollah presence in Bangkok, rumors have swirled as to what Atris Hussein – the detained suspect in the case – intended to do with the warehouse full of explosive materials he led police to.

Debka.com reported that Chabad in Bangkok was a target and the article was referenced by other publications, including Israel Insider, but the Algemeiner has confirmed that Chabad was not the target.

“Yes, we’re aware of the report but we got information that says this is not true,” said a Chabad rep who did not wish to be named for security reasons.

“The authorities we spoke with say, from what they know, the target was not Chabad.”

When asked if authorities have told them about Hussein’s target(s) and whether they were taking any unusual security measures following the arrest, the Chabad spokesman indicated nothing unusual was going on.

“They don’t talk too much but we always have security 24 hours; Israeli guys, other guys, things are normal.”

Hussein has been charged with illegally possessing explosive materials, but it’s been reported that either one or two collaborators are still at large.

They were not targeting Chabad, just the Jewish communal places. Which are Chabad.

Suggestion: Lubavitch headquarters was once mentioned by ‘them’ as a target. Why is there not a team of ex-IDF-security checking the comings and goings. Anyone can enter, and with a yellow Moshiach badge who would suspect? Does anyone really have a handle on the numerous nooks and krannies, with plastic bags and etc.?

Is it an issue of who pays? Merkos or Congregation? Or is everyone relying on the NYPD. Huh? I dont get it.
