Two Chabad Chanukah Parties Make CBS List
Looking for something to do for Chanukah? CBS’ flagship station rated what it called the top eight holiday celebrations in New York City, and two of the parties featured by reporter Carly Sitzer are among the largest bashes hosted by local Chabad-Lubavitch centers.
Chabad of the West Side’s Chanukah on Ice party, which will mark its fifth year, made the list, impressing Sitzer with its family-friendly offerings. Celebrants can skate together under the stars to Jewish music and the glow from a giant, ice-carved menorah at Trump Wollman Rink in Central Park beginning Dec. 20. Eight other Chabad Houses are participating at the event, and Yeshiva University’s popular Maccabeats a cappella group is scheduled to perform.
CBS also listed “Brooklyn’s Largest Menorah,” a 32-foot menorah that is lit every night at Grand Army Plaza in Prospect Park. The giant candelabrum has been erected every year since 1984, and is always lit by Chabad of Brooklyn director Rabbi Shimon Hecht and Jewish community leaders from a cherry picker donated by Con Edison.
