Terror Hits Mumbai Again, Shluchim Safe B”H

Plain clothed police surround a vehicle which was damaged at the site of an explosion in the Dadar area of Mumbai July 13, 2011. Three explosions rocked crowded districts of India’s financial capital of Mumbai during rush hour on Wednesday.

Three deadly explosions rocked different locations in the Indian financial capital of Mumbai Wednesday evening, and although they were apparently linked to the 2008 attacks against tourist targets and the city’s Chabad-Lubavitch center, staff at the Chabad House indicated they were okay.

According to news reports, at least 20 people died and 80 more were injured in the near simultaneous blasts, which struck the busy commercial areas of Dadar, Opera House and Zaveri Bazaar. The explosions came on the birthday of the lone surviving gunman in the 2008 attacks, which claimed 170 lives, including Rabbi Gavriel and Rivka Holtzberg and four of their guests at the Chabad House.

“We didn’t hear the explosions,” said Moishe Korf, a rabbinical student who is working at the Chabad House, adding that attendance at the evening prayer services was less than normal. “Usually, we would have more people for supper, but just a few people came, likely because of the explosions.”

Korf said that staff were taking extra security precautions in the wake of the latest attacks.
