Camp Achoteinu Celebrates Bar Mitzvah Anniversary

Camp Achoteinu is opening its registration this week – for what promises to be a most incredible summer experience. The first ever Chabad traveling camp for girls in Eretz Yisrael, is celebrating its thirteenth anniversary summer by opening spots for more girls and welcoming shliach and world famous entertainer, Rabbi Asi Speigel, to its staff as a dedicated tour guide.

“Rabbi Asi Speigel imbues each experience over the course of the summer with a love of Chassidus; he has a vast knowledge of Eretz Yisrael and a deep understanding of the issues of interest in Israel,” said Chanie Marinovsky, the camp’s director. “The girls are interested in and enthused by his discussions. Rabbi Speigel is a real treasure.”

This summer also marks the return of the veteran camp directors, Rabbi Chayim B. and Sarah Alevsky as camp chaperones. Currently shluchim in Manhattan with many years of camp and youth group experience, the Alevskys are fun, responsible and dedicated to the welfare of the group as a whole and each individual participant. Always on the lookout for mivtzoim on the road along with daily interactive shiurim, the Alevskys bring a unique, shlichus-oriented approach to camp inspiring the girls to connect to Israel and forge new friendships amongst themselves.

“I have known Rabbi Asi Speigel for many years. We arranged the famous Nepal Seders together over 20 years ago, and I’m so excited to embark on more adventures with him this year!” says Rabbi Alevsky; “We enjoyed his company for a short time last year, and saw what a fantastic tour guide he is! Very bright, enthusiastic and informative, he engages everyone in his charismatic presentation, and has a broad range of knowledge of the sights and sounds of Israel from the historic / traditional / Chassidishe perspective along with the Israeli / culture view.”

“Asi inspired us at each point with his inexhaustible scope of Chassidishe stories and deep ideas, connected to the place or personality we visited,” Said Sarah Alevsky, camp Mother and Chaperone.

“Our camp is really heimish, it’s very friendly and family-like,” said Marinovsky. “The girls are infused with a real connection to the Land of Israel and its people, past and present. The girls inspire each other in their excitement to learn and make strides in their chassidishe hanhagos through the many inspirational farbrengens with mashpiim and shluchim from Eretz Yisrael and abroad. As the summer progresses each girl blossoms into a junior shlucha, bringing that excitement for Yiddishkeit and enthusiasm for shlichus back to their respective communities.”

Last year’s Camper CMA reports: “We also have fun at Camp Achoteinu… Thirty days of non-stop exploration of our holy land, visiting mekomos hakedoshim, climbing rocky mountains, touring historical landmarks, hiking through dense forests and vineyards, swimming, singing, dancing, davening, learning, laughing, crying, BBQing ATVing, camelback riding, visiting chayalot, crawling through tunnels, tanks and caves, wading through knee-deep water canals, picking vegetables right off the fields – to help feed the poor – just to name a few. It is an experience of a lifetime.”

Camp Achoteinu is also announcing additional scholarship opportunities this year. Along with the UJA scholarships, Achos Hatmimim points and friend discounts will now be available.
