Chabad Principals Meet in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, CA [CHI] — The Menachem Education Foundation’s Principal Leadership Program met in L.A. this past week for the third week of the program. Nine Chabad principals from across North America participated in three full days of intensive learning and reflective discussions, while also getting to see the L.A. community and attending community functions.

The program began at 6:30 AM on Tuesday morning, Feb. 16 – 2 Adar with Shachris at Beis Levi Yitzchok in the LaBrea area. Following breakfast, the opening session was a 3 hour workshop led by the NYC Leadership Academy. The work focused on building teams within schools to lead improvements and change. The day continued with the principals taking “learning walks” through the classrooms of Cheder Menachem in L.A., followed by a debriefing session.

On Tuesday night, the trustees of Cheder Menachem attended a dinner to “meet and greet” the principals of Chabad and to learn about the future of Chinuch. The dinner was coordinated by the Menachem Education Foundation, and was attended by trustees and parents of the Cheder. Rabbi Yossi Rosenblum, principal of Yeshiva Schools of Pittsburgh, delivered the keynote, addressing the improvements that are being implemented in our system and how parents and community leaders can support these efforts.

Rabbi Avremel Wolowik, principal of Cheder Chabad of Monsey, exclaimed, “The atmosphere at the dinner was energetic and optimistic! The camaraderie between the principals was in itself an inspiration and the Chashivus that the Balei Battim bestowed upon the principals was especially uplifting!”

The program continued on Wednesday and Thursday with the principals continuing their work of developing standards for Yeshivos. The importance of developing standards is for teachers and principals to have common end goals in sight; to really define what the Yeshiva intends to accomplish through its curriculum and instruction. When a school uses standard-based curriculum it is able to continually evaluate the teaching and learning to ensure that it meets the proper goals.

Rabbi Zalman Shneur, the Executive Director of the Menachem Education Foundation, remarks, “I am very thankful to Cheder Menachem, Rabbi Mendy Greenbaum & Rochie Stillman for hosting and arranging this beautiful week. It is an inspiration for me to be able to work with such a wonderful community school, in which the parents and teachers collaborate to provide such exceptional education for our children!”
