Chanukah in Sydney Australia
This year in Sydney, Australia. there was a beautiful Car Menora Parade with dozens of cars participating. The Talmidei Hashluchim (Rabbinical Students) of the Yeshiva Gedolah and Smicha Program worked tirelessly to prepare magnificent Menoras using cutting edge technology and very bright LED bulbs bringing the light of Chankah to the Streets of Sydney.
The parade left from the Macquarie Lighthouse on Old South Head Rd along New South Head Rd, William St. Collage St and Macquarie St culminating at Martin Place for the grand Menorah lighting and Chanukah in the City.
Chanukah in the City attracted many hundreds of families to a giant Menorah lighting, there was a Jumping Castle, electrifying 4 man fire show, BBQ, Mivtzoim booths where hundreds of Neshek were distributed as well as Menorahs and other Jewish material.
Throughout the week the giant menorah was lit with electric LED lights each night another light was added but for the main family night gas lights were used in order to make a Brocho.
One of the highlights was Australias biggest Chocolate Dreidle, the 4 foot Dreidle was covered with nearly 20 pounds of Chocolate and once on display was consumed in a matter of minutes.
Another major attraction was the electirifying 4 man fire show that wowed the crowed with dangerous fire feats like fire blowing and coordinated fire twirling.
Attendees also received Doughnuts, Latkes, Glow sticks, Dreidles and Chocolate Coins.
The event was also attended by a number of government representatives including The Hon John Aquilina MP, Leader of the House and representing the Premier and State Government, Mr Peter Debnam MP, Member for Vaucluse, The Hon David Clarke MLC and Reverend the Hon Fred Nile MLC who all gave greetings and Chanukah wishes.
The event was concluded with a grand raffle of a Nintendo Wii Super Family Pack valued at over AU$600 that was won by a Ms Freada Firman.
A special thank you to all those that helped bring Chanukah 5770 to fruition.
