Following his election to the National Council for Private School Accrediation’s highest post, Rabbi Nochem Kaplan, director of the global Chabad-Lubavitch movement’s Office of Education, will officially assume presidential duties of the organization today during its annual summer meeting in Silver Spring, Md.

Representing more than 30,000 preschool, elementary and secondary private schools, the NCPSA is an umbrella organization for U.S. private accrediting agencies and the highest private educational supervisory body in the country.

Two years ago, Kaplan became the accreditation body’s first rabbi and Jewish representative elected to its executive council when he become the NCPSA vice president.

In his new position, Kaplan – who also chairs the National Accreditation Board of Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch, the educational arm of Chabad-Lubavitch – will guide the NCPSA in setting accreditation standards for private schools throughout the United States, on both the academic and administrative levels.
