The Lubavitcher Answer to UN’s Durban Conference

GENEVA, Switzerland [CHI] — As the UN’s controversial Durban Conference got underway, less the participation of a number of countries, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Pevzner the head Shliach in Geneva came up with the Chabad response.

In an interview Rabbi Pevzner said “we rented a large community center just a few steps away from the UN building and throughout the conference we will be hosting a wide range of activities” adding that they will include Minyamin and Shiurim.

The “world conference against racism” was dubbed “the Durban conference” after it initially took place in Durban, South Africa in 2001 and is reconvening this week in order to “gage progress since the conference.”

A number of nations elected to not take part in the conference, which contrary to its name turned into a shameless full frontal assault on Jews and the state of Israel, among those not participating are Israel and the United States along with Australia, Italy, Germany, Holland, Sweden and Canada all of whom who have boycotted the event.

Today another group of nations and diplomats decided to recall their presence at the conference including Jordan, France, UK, Finland, and other representatives of the European Union. This came during a speech by the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in which he attacked Israel calling them a “racist government” and lashed out at the United States for the war in Afghanistan.
