The United States army has just allowed chaplains to wear beards, opening up army chaplaincy positions to Lubavitchers for the first time.

The Aleph Institute is looking to fill this unique opportunity to become a full Shliach as a Military Chaplain in the US Army. The army is looking for Jewish chaplains to service the thousands of Yidden (and their wives, kids and families) that are in the army.

Can someone expain how the clowns at the shluchim office plan on hiring someone for the US Military?

If you want to apply for the job (actually jobs, as they can hire more than one) all you need to do is call your local recruiting center.

  • 2 cents

Is this a Shlichus that is endorsed by Merkos, it could be a wonderful thing ( you can get a job doing youth programing for your local conservative synagogue ) however I am sure that there are many questionable things that you would have to do as you are an employee of the DOD , it could be a wonderful PR stunt, and that is why the Rebbe set up Merkos, the Shluchim office and Alef are there to provide services not to set policy.

    Mr Pizza Crust ,
Before you bash the shluchim office out of lack of your own self- confidence, why don’t you first find out what good things they do and then READ the article again… They are assisting the Aleph Institute find someone for the job specifically through the Aleph Institute – Not the military directly. Though come to think of it – The military would probably teach you some tolerance and respect for others – so why not join yourself?? But please.. go to the recruiting office directly- no one wants to assist an ungrateful person like yourself get a job.

much Hatzlochah in your new position!

  • Thankfull

Yashar KLoah to Gedalya Shemtov of the shluchim office for helping shluchim an so many ways

Mr. Pizzacrust and 2cents inorder to become a chaplain in the united states armed forces you need to be endorsed by an endorsing agency. Aleph is an endorsing agency for Jewish Chaplains. Our Rebbe loved and cared for every Jew in the most remote places. There are Jewish men and women serving for our country stationed in places where it is impossible to get a lulav and an esrog, Matzah and grape juice. My friend this is shlichus.

Aleph can endorse that is true, but does the shluchinm office does not do the hiring….

  • To thankfull

And a A yasher Koach to the Rebbe Merkos and Rabbi Krinsky for establishing and paying for it all the years of its youth – to make it what it is today!!!

  • Trying to remain loyal

I think it is important, before anyone runs to join the army — to find out what the Rebbe’s position was regarding chaplains. It is known to those that wanted to enlist in the past (like Rabbi Asher Zeilingold of MN and others) that the Rebbe was totally against it. This had nothing to do with not being able to join, because they could have if they wanted and the Rebbe was against it for various reasons. If we remain followers of the Rebbe, how can we now close our eyes to clear instructions in not joining the army, navy etc.? I find that it is appalling and shocking that only after a few years we are now changing course and taking Chabad and Lubavitcg on a strange path.

  • Clarity

Trying to remain loyal – Before you make sweeping statements on what the Rebbe said you should understand that every situation is different, even if on the surface they appear the same.

The Rebbe has his Shliach in the army, U.S. Army Col. Rabbi Jacob Goldstein who has been in the service for over 30 years. Before starting in the army he consulted the Rebbe who agreed wholeheartedly and gave him his brochas. Not only that the Rebbe encouraged Chaplain Goldstein to remain in the Army with a full-grown beard even when they were about to boot him out for having one, until recently he was the only member with a full-length beard.
