Whew! It wasn’t anti-Semitism at shul – just a regular burglary

BROOKLYN NY — A man broke into an often-attacked Remsen Street synagogue early Monday morning — but this time, it was common thievery, not anti-Semitism that appeared to be on the crook’s mind.

A neighbor called the cops after she heard shattering glass around at 4:05 am at Congregation B’Nai Avraham, which made international news last fall after swastikas were painted on the door and anti-Semitic fliers were left on area blocks.

There was another case of swastika graffiti against the Conservative shul in March.

But bias is not suspected this time, cops said.

The neighbor told cops that she noticed a man inside the synagogue, which is between Clinton and Henry streets, but by the time police arrived, the man was gone.

The burglar was wearing an argyle sweater and a dark hat, the witness said.

The incident is the second attempted burglary at Congregation B’nai Avraham this summer. On June 4, a man smashed the front door and tried to break in, but was thwarted when another neighbor called the cops after hearing shattered glass, and the burglar couldn’t get in the front door. That burglar also disappeared before police could arrive.

because at least he knows the intruders were after money not after him. In these “hipster” neighborhoods where the residents are “liberal” anti-semitism is raging. they view us in the worst possible way. not to mention that they are hard core supporters of the palenstinian agenda because that is the “cool” way too think. every single one of us needs to stand with aaron raskin in solidarity because if you think just because his shlichus has him next door to CH its easy, you are 1000% wrong.

  • hello!?

Thanks to the wonderfull neighbors for calling the cops. keep up the brave work some people would just look the other way.

Brooklyn Heights is not a “hipster” neighborhood by any means. It is one of the most sought after and expensive neighborhoods in the city with a large affluent Jewish population. It was targeted by who knows what anti-Semetic nut(s) who painted swastikas and left leaflets on dooesteps. It is in close proximetry to the small Muslim contingent that surrounds the notorious mosque on Atlantic Ave; those would be the only pro Palestinian supporters in the area.
Anti-Semetic attacks will probably always be with us, this one was not, let’s not make it worse than it was please.
The Remsen Street Shul is a highly regarded and valuable neighbor. Let’s concentrate on the good that comes out of that.
