Where has all the money gone?
This is very nice and all but wouldn’t money like that be better spent on helping Yeshivos NOT be bankrupt?
in ch
great job! we should see more bocherim like this! you should continue giving your mishpacha lots of nachas.
Yossi
This is unbelievable a boy to do entire Mesechtas Bava Basra, including Rashi and Tosfos by-heart in one shot…
Mesechtas Bava Basra as the most pages.. from what I hear the staff at the rabbinical college encouraged him along with the other students to study by heart..
Extremely impressive!
WoW WOW
Rabbi Leibel Kaplan Was my Rosh Yeshiva decades ago.. This is truly impressive! Rabbi Kaplan’s love and care for every student he leads by example…
There’s no doubt in my mind that he is and individual that is making the Rebbe proud!
אט דאס
This is the types of news that should always be reported on a Chabad news side.
It brings to mind the that when the Rebbe was told that Rabbi Berel Levine finished the whole Baba Basrah by heart He stood up and said with amazement in yidish “the whole Baba Basrah”.
you just have nu clue
to those who think the money should go to yeshivah etc. like the first comment.
you have no idea what mesachta baba bassra is like. and what this kid did.
this is money well spend.
keep up the good work!
This money well spent!!! it’s about time yeshivas put their money where their mouth this! encouraging the boy is motivating the boys spending time with each boy individually and coaching them to reach their potential showing what they are capable of doing!! Rabbi Kaplan and his staff should be applauded!!
impressive!!!
you guys have great keep up the good work!
the Learning will stay with them foreve
other institutions should stop and take note!! it is not about money that is a temporary satisfaction with the boys are learning now will stay with them for a lifetime!!!!!
Att WoW WOW
Obviously, he never taught you English, but it’s a good point, he really is a great Rosh Yeshivah. Yirbu Kmoso!
Bava Basra, including Rashi and Tosfos
bava basrah hardly has rashi it is mostly rashba”m (which makes it all the more impressive, simce rashbam didnt have the koiach of writing as bikitzur as rashi did)
not yeshiva-s money
it wasn’t the yeshiva who gave the money. someone else offered it as an incentive for the boys. the yeshiva doesn’t have this kind of money.
Tanya
Isnt odd that bochurim have to be paid exorbiant amounts of money to learn?? I mean $4000 for a yeshiva that has no money, hasnt paid its staff fully in months seems misguided… of course the mivtza s great but is there really no other way to get the bichurim to learn??? Is there really a lower lo lishma tham cash??? And we make fun of those who learn for honor, what is cruder???
appossing stupity
to the commentor using the id where has all the money gone. b4 u comment think who gave the money you or the sponsor after that you could think what to do with money that YOU give
mendy
the rambam says a person should learn for rewared thebn he’ll edn up doing it leshma akso fine you’ll show us how you can learn rhe entire baba basara bal peh and doing it leshmo
Zalmans
I have tremendous respect for Rav Kaplan.
But please explain. We live in a very materialistic world. Linking marital aspirations with limid hatorah is abhorrent it defiles our torah, an island of truth and clarity in a confused and shallow world.
Please Rav Kaplan, or, anyone with clarity and good sense, explain how this doesn’t contradict our Torah, Chassidishe and Lubavitcher values.
bocher
To “tanya” OBVIOSLY BUCHRIM DONT NEED TO BE PAID TO LEARN, BUT – as a bocher who finished baba basra myself this year – this is not just regular learning this is houers apon houers of overtime, staying up late, complete consantration, and major zitz flayesh.
so before you coment nagitivly about us bochrim, i just want to know if when you wore a bucher you put it in all those extra houers?? especioly that todays buchrim have alot more nisyonos then buchrim from older generations and decades.
i am shoure that this bocher (and all the buchrim from all yishivos finishing the masive mesechta of this year) is giving the rebbe alot of nachas, and will without a dout bring moshiach speadely now mamash!!
Yossi
1) Having learned for a year in Montreal I can say that Rabbi Kaplan was teh best RY that I ever had. He truly cares for the bochurim, gave great shiurim ans is a real oved. (a rare combnation in a RY)
2) Being don lekaf zechus and knowing Rabbi Kaplan, the money was probably sponsored FOR THIS by a supporter. Rabbi Kaplan has on his own taken responsibility for the yeshiva and has many supporters
A Teacher
Those idiots who say bochurim should not get paid to learn are idiots. And if you had half a brain you wouldnt be complaining but complimenting. Such negitivity I guess you just are a loser with nothing better to do than curse out bochurim that learn torah for money. What would you rather do offer them 70 sheep like in arab countries? Morons!
I think i more of a say in this matter
I know Heshy,i was with him in yeshiva for 2 years and i can tell you that he definitley did not do this for the kavod or money, its just who he is a bachur who sits and learns day in day out i always had alot of respect for him i wish i had the power to sit and learn and to be a chasidishe bachur like him.
p.s.the years i was with him yeshiva we did not have such prizes so all of you with bad comments “seyog lachochma shtika”.(peirkei avos)
curious
For those of us who don’t understand what was memorized and how many pages are involved, I hope someone explains so ignorant ones like myself can appreciate what these boys did.I am also wondering why it is necessary to memorize in this day and age? I truly do not understand. There are books and the internet etc.Why is it required to know all this “baal peh”?Just wondering.
yitz
This is absolutely beautiful.
It is hard to see how any rational person can have something negative to say about this.
Tomim
Here’s a rasha who thinks the whole thing is a waste of time.
To Curious
Baba Basra is a section of Talmud with 175 small letter double sided pages.
Each page has the basic talmud in the center and is surrounded by 2 commentaries Rash“i/Rashba”m who generally explain the talmud and Tosafos who delves into the more complex aspects of the talmud, reconciling contradictions and the likes.
In addition to it being long it is also from the more difficult tractates, covering topics like real estate, inheritance, and other types of laws.
You ask why it is important that it be learned by heart.
I ask in return have you ever studies in college and had to memorize Shakespare, law etc.?
When ones mind is full of Jewish law philosophy and Torah in general he is transformed.
In place of his mind filling itself up with all the nonsense so abundant in todays society it is filled with pure G-dly understanding.
But don’t worry he probably did not memorize it word for word only the concept.
um.....
Attention “bochur”:
Maybe you should take some time to learn how to spell properly!
Oh, and good job Heshy…your Los Angeles community is schepping lots of nachas!!! :) miss you here…
bale bos
