Rabbi Liss speaking with students at the Lubavitch Yeshiva Bedford and Dean Ave

In honor of his 25th Yarhrzeit, the 16th of Teves and the Yahrzeit of his wife, the 29th of Teves.

Hachossid Rabbi Eliyohu Moshe Liss was born in Nissan 1909, in the city of Dlugoshdola near Vishkov, Poland. Rabbi Liss was not able to verify his date of birth. On one occasion, he asked the Rebbe what date to commemorate. The Rebbe advised him that since Rabonim are considered kings, and the month of Nissan is considered the New Year for kings, therefore he should commemorate his birthday in Nissan.

Prior to the outbreak of WWI, his family escaped to Russia and by divine providence he arrived in Lubavitch. Reb Eliyohu Moshe learned in the cheder and merited to see the Rebbe RaShaB.

I think that the two bochurim in the top picture are: on Rabbi Liss’ left, Laibel Andrusier, and on his right …Sugar O”H. In the picture by the microphone is Laibel Swerdlov.

I would appreciate confirmation or correction.

Thank you for publishing such a wonderful article! He was truly a tzaddik.

Correction to #1 re: second picture: the two bochurim are Rabbi Moshe Bogomilsky (sitting next to Rabbi Liss), and Rabbi Shmuel Pesach Bogomilsky

Rabbi Liss A”H was my Mashgiach when I arrived in Vilna in 1940. He encouraged me to join Lubavitch Yeshiva as I had come from the Kamenitz Yeshiva. Thanks to his shmues about Hashogo Protis, I listened to him and remained in the Lubavitch Yeshiva and went with him to Shanghai & on to New York, thereby saving my life. I cherish his memory and observe his Yohrzeit. Yehi Zichro Boruch. Rabbi Moshe Chaim Sapochkinsky
