79-Year-Old Woman Injured in Car Accident

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — An elderly Jewish woman was struck down by a livery cab as she attempted to cross Albany Avenue.

The accident occurred in the intersection of Crown Street and Albany Avenue before the eyes of horrified witnesses. The woman, a 79-year-old lady pushing a cart, was crossing inside the crosswalk with a green light while the livery cab attempted to make a left turn from Crown onto Albany.

Hatzalah was called, and the woman was rushed to the hospital while crying out in pain. She suffered injuries to her hip, leg and head.

The cabby remained on the scene and an accident report was filled out by police officers on foot patrol.

    I WITNESSED THE ACCIDENT. THE DRIVER DID NOT HIT THE WOMAN, HE HIT HER SHOPPING CART WHICH CAUSED HER TO FALL. WHATEVER INJURIES SHE MAY HAVE SUSTAINED WOULD HAVE BEEN FROM HER FALL. IT’S GOOD TO BE HONEST WHEN REPORTING AN INCIDENT, EVEN IF IT MEANS NOT HAVING ALL THE SENSATIONALISM ATTACHED.

    I think that there should be stop signs at every turn area. There are way too many of these types of accident. So sorry for this woman’s pain, she should have a refuoh shalaimah.

    i was there when she was on the floor screaming out in pain and it was an horrific scene that no one should ever experience (especially b4 yom kippur) may she be well and have a fast refuah shelama and she kept saying cover my hair bc her sheitel was falling off she lying their in pain saying her foot is numb but she still worried about tznius a lot a ver gr8 women

  • Happening way to often in Crown Heights

    There is no reason why ANYONE who has the right of way should be struck down – even in Crown Heights where there seems to be no accountability. A driver that turns a corner without slowing down and looking for a crossing pedestrian has committed criminal negligence at the very least, and should be dealt with to the fullest extent of the law. That means having charges pressed, a court case, paying damages, and a revoked or suspended license. No one should be allowed to walk away scott-free after literally ruining someone’s precious life through negligence. A driver who leaves the scene or is under the influence should have jail time. It pains me to hear about my dear fellow Jews being hurt time and time again by the lawless and the reckless in Crown Heights. Just read today’s articles on this site. It’s a crying shame.

    Are you the driver’s lawyer?
    He hit her, or her cart.
    Whatever the case, he was the direct cause of her fall and her injuries, because if he wouldn’t have hit anything, she would not have been hurt.
    May she have an immediate refuah shalayma.

    Just the other day I was crossing the same intersection in a car like the cabby. There was a double parked car in the left hand turning lane. I had to make a left from the right hand lane and pray no one ran into the crosswalk. In many places there is a green walk signal for only the pedestrians. This maybe a solution to this problem. Oh and don’t double park especially in front of an intersection.

    You saw incorrect, her foot was crushed and broken in many places by the car. as per family members.

    THE BOTTOM LINE IS THE POOR INNOCENNT WOMAN WAS HURT. BUT THERE IS NO WAY HER FOOT COULD HAVE BEEN CRUSHED BY THE CARS TIRE AS HER FEET WERE NOWHERE NEAR THE TIRE WHEN SHE FELL DOWN.
