Accidents Mar Visiting Day in the Catskills

CATSKILL MOUNTAIN REGION [CHI] — Unfortunately, this year’s first visiting day was not only marked with excited children greeting their parents. Thankfully and miraculously, those other incidents did not turn out grimmer.

Thruway

At around 1:30pm a serious four car accident occurred on the New York State Thruway. Passersby said that it was simply a miracle no one was killed in the smashup, which shut down the highway for nearly an hour. A number of people were trapped inside the wreckage and rescue workers had to cut them out. Hatzolah was on scene and treated some of the victims.

Route 17

At around 4:00pm a van ran off the highway and into a ditch on Route 17 near exit 123. Hatzalah of Kiryas Joel responded and emergency rescue personal had to cut one of the occupants from the vehicle. Delays due to the accident rippled throughout the rest of the day as visitors began making their way back to the city.

Swan Lake

At around 6:10pm a vehicle rolled over on Bender Highway right off Stanton Corner Road. The driver was able to extricate himself from the car and was thankfully not seriously injured.

  • be safe

Baruch Hashem no serious injuries. Hopefully everyone else got home safe and sound. We need to be extra cautious during the 3 weeks. Please drive carefully, and remember, even though you are a good driver, the guy behind the wheel in the next car may not be.
So say tefillas haderech with kavanna, and if driving at night, make sure to stop, and at the very least, walk around the car every hour as directed by the Rebbe.

  • Texting

…and how many of those accidents were caused by people texting or talking on the phone while driving? We may be lucky sometimes when we text with no incidents, but we are not always lucky.
Please don’t text and drive! You are not only putting your own life in danger, you are putting so many other people in danger as well!
