Infant Falls from a Second Story Window

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — A 1-and-a-half year old boy took a two story plunge out of his family’s 2nd floor apartment, and miraculously survived.

The incident occurred on Crown Street where the boy was being watched by a baby sitter. The window was fitted with a safety rail and it is unclear how it dislodged and allowed the boy to fall.

Hatzalah was immediately called and found the baby alert and cry – which was a good sign – and rushed him to the hospital. Upon closer examination the boy was found to have internal bruising and swelling to his brain. Doctors expect the boy to recover and in the meantime he is listed in critical condition.

i know that the parents are not to blame, but it is about time that landlords wake up and install bars on windows. i see many buildings on high floors with these flimsy window guards it is poshet a sakenah!! I know a shul in this community which is owned by a wealthy businessman, without and window guards. we watch many shabbosim as children literally are hanging onto the windows…its like a problem wating to happen. isnt it cheaper to install a protection now rather than being sued ur brains out later on!

  • Who-s the landlord?

These “safety bars” aren’t too stable, I think it was probably easy if they weren’t screwed in well to push them out as he fell. B”H he’ll be OK. the parents must be in a bad way.

  • refua shelaima!

    this is so scary!!!!!!!!!
poor babysitter, i feel for her
may he have an immediate refua shlaima iy”h

I don’t feel bad for a babysitter. That is her job to WATCH a baby, not talking on a phone or check her Facebook while she is babysitting.Where were she when it happened.
I think we should know her name. It’s a danger for our precious babies.

  • i put up window guards myself - I rent

With prayers for a refuah shleima quickly.

the landlords are not obligated to put up bars or window guards in a 1 and 2 or 3 family house. It is the responsibility of the family living in the house. Only in a building or more than 4 family house is the landlord required to do this.

Wow!!!!!!!! That’s amazing that he’s getting better! I definitely agree that there should be those safety guard gates but why isn’t there screens? but that’s besides the point! It’s not really the babysitters fault but where was she?

  • a

no one can be blamed for this… it isnt the babysitters fault it could happen to any responsible person…. may he have a sppedy recovery!!!

To #6. I am not sure if you have feel bad for the babysitter. I think some parents do not even “think” when they hire not reliable babysitters. Just go in Lefferts park and see who takes care of our holy kids. I wish they will invastigate this “accident”.

  • mother

The baby sitter could very well have been right there, even within arms reach but it only takes a second for the child to fall if the bars weren’t secure enough.

  • Annonymous

This kind of thing can happen at any time I remember watching and actually catching a child from falling through a screen on a second floor window BH the boy id fine and nothing happened to him but boy was I scared.

  • Thinkster

Living in CH is getting dangerous – if the stray bullets don’t get you, the falling babies will.

  • Tehillim

I am not interested in knowing who it is, but if someone has the child’s name ben the mother’s name?

Hatzalah was called by a BRHS student that was passing by when it happened. Nechama we’re proud of you!

  • Arnica

Hopefully this baby was given Arnica, a homeopathic remedy that should be in everyone’s first aid box. Doctors see no use for it and therefore probably could not care less if it is used.

  • #9...

with a loose window the girl could have been playing ball with the kid and it only took seconds for him to lean and fall out the window—even if she were paying 100% attention to him. In the same respect, it could have been an older sibling or a parent–and they wouldn’t get the blame. The poor girl is probably traumatized just like the family. Name for the baby???

  • #9

accurately, she was NOT on her phone or Facebook, she was making a battle for the baby.
it is not her fault , and she feels terrible already, so writing that comment doesn’t help her a bit!

  • to #9!!!

SHAME ON YOU NUMBER 9! AND TO RIGHT “ACHDUS!” IN THE NAME BOX!!!….YOU SHOULD BE EMBARRASSED!!!!!!
