Young Boy Struck Running Across Street

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — Thursday, Erev Shevuos, a young boy was struck by a car on the corner of Kingston Ave and Crown St. The boy who was running across the street and could not stop on time. He slid under the middle of the car and was run over by the back tire.

CrownHeights.info obtained security footage of the incident, where one can observe the young boy run into the street then see the car and try to stop. However the wet street coupled with the white stripe for the cross walk, made for a very slippery surface, and the boy just slid under the car.

The driver of the vehicle apparently did not realize he ran someone over and just continued driving.

Hatzalah responded and treated the boy, who suffered from some minor leg injuries and was transported to the hospital for some checkups.

CrownHeights.info would like to take this opportunity, to remind parents: Train your children to waits for a green light, look both ways before crossing and not to run across the street!

I’M BAFFLED BY TWO THINGS, HOW CAN A DRIVER NOT FEEL WHEN HE RUNS OVER A PERSON????!!!!!AND THE SECOND THING THAT REALLY GETS ME IS THE CARELESSNESS OF PARENTS WHO ALLOW THEIR YOUNG, VERY YOUNG CHILDREN TO CROSS STREETS BY THEMSELVES.

and the third most important thing is that very often adults cross the streets in Crown Heights when the light is red, even if no cars are coming, this sets a terrible example for the children! I’m no angel, but when there are children on the corners I make it a point not to cross until the light is green and it is safe to do so.

  • NOT PLEASED

I dont feel its right, for the privacy of the child and his family to post up pictures of this. Its a very yente thing to do.

If the article is accurate in that he only suffered “minor leg injuries” then this is a revealed miracle.

  • Tehilem

Does anyone know his name so that we can say Tehilem?
If you do please tell us quikly.
May he have a speedy recovery!

PLEASE DONT POST THESE THINGS BEFORE YOU KNOW THE BOY IS OK.
YOUR LETTING PARENTS GET VERY SCARED FOR NO REASON.
    your letting them hang!

dont jump to conclusions, hes not even that little. also, i was there. he wasnt crossing the street. he was running on the sidewalk, and slipped into the street. the car hit him before he had a chance to get up. baruch hashem he is fine, he only hurt his leg. think before you post! the driver DID realize he ran over someone. he stopped, but then continued driving.

Trucks should not be allowed to park and unload at the corner. Children and adults CANNOT see the oncoming cars and neither can the drivers see people at the crosswalk. The truck in this case was so forward that the little 10 year old boy could not even see the crossing sign – which he is careful to look for before crossing.
This is a residential neighborhood. Stores should be courteous and have their trucks unload a few 100 feet in from the corner so that people/drivers have clear vision of the streets.
    B”H he wasn’t seriously injured.
A big Thank You to all those who helped care for him! We appreciate their stopping their hectic schedules to help our son.
To those nasty commentors – Al tadin es chavercha ad shetagiah limkoma.
If the majority of our community would be more caring and less judgemental – maybe we’d be zoche to Moshiach.
The Beis Hamikdosh was destroyed because of Sinas Chinom – not lack of tznius. Let’s be happy for each other’s joys and caring in times of trouble.
To the mother who doesn’t let children cross – it’s high time you teach your 10 year old to cross the street. (Accidents happen – and if it’s Hashem’s will, a car can jump the curb – or land in a storefront i.e. Chanuka 5 towns.)
May this website only have good news to share in the future!

  • A responsible mother

    To Crown Heights Resident:

My 10 year old crosses the street by himself. Since he’s in 5th grade, he’s not allowed to go on the bus anymore. Which means he has to cross all the streets from our house until school. As a parent, we taught him how and when to cross. Is it careless of me to send him off to school alone? Would you like me to hold his hand, too? Apparently, it’s ok with the city because these boys are not eligible for school buses.

    To Uziel’s mother:

I wish your son a Refuah Shleima!
